Tories have morphed into ‘English Nationalist Party’ member declares

  1. Well, err, yeah. They’ve always been a nationalistic party. That’s the very nature of the party. Always has been.

  2. Honestly… I fail to see it, and I’m also a bit miffed that every other nation in the UK is ‘allowed’ such a party but as soon as it applies to England, its supposedly a bad thing.

The tories are not an English nationalist party. What the fuck have the Tories done for England? The Rhetoric doesn’t even match. They just spout vaguely right wing platitudes that they never follow through with. It just so happens that England is the only part of the nation who votes for the bastards. What specifically pro-England things have the Tories done or even said? And before some ScotNat comes at me saying that the Tories treat Scotland like shit – yeah, treating Scotland or Wales or NI like crap does not make them pro-English it just makes them shit at governing in those regions.

I’ve noticed this ‘English Nationalist Party’ rhetoric coming from Tory centrists in recent times. It smells to me suspiciously like they’re trying to discredit the right of the party without actually having to commit to reforms in order to achieve better governance for England as well as the rest of the UK. Just dismiss the circumstances which allowed the rise of the popularist right as ‘English nationalism’, sweep them under the rug and forget about them.

  3. They are just more open about it now that their voters are happy with them going in that direction. With no chance of them gaining seats in three out of four home nations and with Scottish independence on the table once more, they have just dropped the pretence that they cared about people outside of England. Next up will be dropping the pretence they care about parts of England outside of the south east.

  4. Welding themselves to the fantasies of Brexit morphed them into the “wilfully ignorant party”

  5. The sad thing for conservative members is the frog boiled slowly. The influx of loons from ukip and the bnp has been happening for 20 years. Most of the good ones were forced away.

  6. Well, yeah. They’ve hollowed out the moderately affluent, liberal professionals who’d traditionally be a big part of their core. But because of the voting system, there’s no real alternative party for those people to go to.

  7. They’re running their campaigns on who hates transgender people more and defending sending refugees to a random country after buying them off – no shit they’re turning into a nationalist party. They saw Americas success in pandering to the most stupid and racist swing voters and are copying.

  8. It’s just upsetting seeing the obvious changes everyone wants e.g cracking down on offshore bank accounts etc, and none of it gets talked about. Or Keir Starmer raises the topic of some form of corruption that the Tories completely ignore, and it’s debatable whether Keir would do anything about it either!

  9. The Tories are in a race with the US Republican party to become the west’s leading fascist party. Thankfully for us they are quite a way behind, but they’re headed in the same direction.

  10. I’d change “morphed” to “revealed to be” and that would be a more accurate summation but pretty much everyone outside England clocked that over a decade ago.

    Actually probably four decades ago.
