Chaos with ed milliband seems more appealing by the second. Last time labour was remotely viable

*edit… apparently it’s a misreport and they aren’t ruling out nationalising rail but they are ruling copying the French and nationalising big energy so fuck it, my comment stands*
<*big sigh*> I have no choice to vote Labour if I want my Tory MP out but my god are they making it difficult for me to get excited about doing it.
I can understand why nationalisation was portrayed as unpalatable when Corbyn was pushing for it – the media even managed to make him making his own jam into something offensive/outrageous.
But now, years later and with an energy crisis, out of control bills, the prospect of ‘warm banks’ for pensioners to take refuge in, record breaking temperatures from climate change and a war in Europe I’d have thought that nationalising energy (at the very least) would have been an easy win.
They could just point at France and say that even they’re doing it. Fuck, they could just make a campaign poster showing all the foreign state owned infrastructure in the UK.
I think labour is starting to get too cocky for their own good again.
Wow youre meant to be saying things to get people excited to vote Labour, youre meant to promote a vision not continue the same old tory policy shite.
This country has become rotten like there is no tomorrow. No defense for poor and middle class citizens. Copy paste from the american fuckers.
so what are they going to do? privatised rail is a disaster, and private utilities has led to every working class person feeling a pinch, so why the fuck?
E: Apparently Rachel didn’t hear the Rail part of the question. They are still nationalising rail.
I’m not going to waste any of that energy voting for them, then.
So, as well as not backing any notion of re-joining the EU they are now saying no to nationalisation. Hell.
Basic infrastructure should be a national asset (and responsibility). I would add another to this list: recycling.
Labour – please listen to what you voters want! Otherwise doomed to another decade of chaos and descent.
Basing their entire campaign on ‘we’re not the Tories’ might not be the winner.
Have labour run out of ideas too?
Would be nice to see that they have some solid desire to improve our situation
What they’re saying is they’re happy to have no control over vital infrastructure. Infrastructure that has failed the people in the past 12 months.
I’m really failing to see what Labour are offering as an alternative to this mess. There’s nothing radical to rally behind, they may as well call themselves the status quo party.
“We’ll add in nothing, repeal a couple of shit things the Tories did and act a bit more dignified than Boris.”
That’s essentially the message I feel like I’m hearing from Labour right now and it isn’t inspiring whatsoever.
I understand this isn’t going to be popular, but it feels in line with what the Labour Party are currently going with. We can’t make promises we can’t keep and it would be hypocritical to accuse the tories of fantasy economics and then promise the same. With the state of things currently promising to spend billions bringing these industries under government control doesn’t make sense.
So…
No nationalisation, no return to CU and SM, no alliance with anyone.
Labour wants to sit on its ass in opposition to another victorious Con-servatives election?
Nationalising rail is low hanging fruit at this point. Support for it is strong.
I can see why there is less interest in nationalising utilities, that conversation is in its infancy and there just isn’t the support which there is for nationalising rail.
Brilliant, thanks, I cannot wait for more soft Tory bullshit. And people wonder why younger generations are apathetic towards voting.
We need voting reform now.
Whats the fucking point of current labour? Pretty much back at “red tories” level.
So even with Truss or Sunak, its another Tory election win again, Kier is totally unlikable.
An absolute disgrace, no other way to put it. How can you complain about things not being affordable yet not want to do anything about it? Wolf in sheep’s clothing.
We need a decent Alternative ( with a backbone) to Tories and Labour to be honest
Labour is looking weak going into this GE – this is coming from a Labour voter. I try to defend them to Tory voters but it’s hard and shit like this doesn’t help. I struggle to find any policies they’re putting forward other than being the alternative to the Tories – they’re just ‘meh’.
Starmer’s Labour genuinely make Joe Biden look like a forward thinking socialist
Cowards. Pathetic lap dogs. What even is the point in Labour.
They are all about what they wont do. What WILL you do?
“Listen folks, *we are not the Tories*. Is this not enough? What do you want from us, actual left wing policies?”
**THEN WHAT ARE YOU FUCKING FOR, RACHEL**
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST
Yikes, were going to end up with a tory gov again with a labour/lib dem split vote. It’s written on the wall.
You’ll not be getting my vote then lads. All the best.
Labour seem to care more about appealing to tory voters than labour ones at this point.
If you’re someone who wants to pull the country economically leftwards then abolition of FPTP voting needs to be an absolute priority.
Under current circumstances Labour cannot offer anything but neoliberal centrism and leftwing Britons have no choice but to back them. If somehow someway we can get PR then labour will be forced to court leftwingers again or face electoral calamity.
We all saw what happened to JC.
So much for democracy and freedom.
Think they should look at the mess and shill created by privatisation. When the companies revenues are dropping due to spiralling costs and the need to pay shareholders dividend outweighs the point of the system. Then start penalties, add costs instead of bailout. Play them at their own game.
What an inspirational Labour party, really rallying people together on their platform of…nothing?
I’m feeling a bit disillusioned at the minute.
If Labour aren’t going to nationalise water, rail or energy and they aren’t going to increase corporation tax then I’m not entirely sure what they’re actually going to do.
I understand how Starmer has to balance the line between appealing to independentant and conservative voters and current labour voters.
I know there’s always someone who will find something to criticise him, labour/lib dem/ green voters are much more critical of their own parties than conservative.
But he has to stand for fucking something. I’m pretty sure nationalising the rail cervical, heavily regulating energy, supporting unions, lowering tax and supporting green initiative would be largely popular right now.

EDIT:
Forgot the possibility that he think’s current labour votes are ‘in the bag’, which I think is a mistake. Many would rather vote lib dem or green and are being pushed that way, which may lead to them losing seats despite tories losing popularity.
Also I don’t think trying to be ‘tory lite’ is really going to appeal to independent voters. I’m pretty sure people want real change.
The problems caused by years of tory rule are finally being seen by the general public and I’m sure people want a leader who will solve them!
