Given that Johnson only continued and expanded on May’s Ukrainian policies regarding weapon supply and training, I would hope more of the same from either of the candidates.
£2.3bn so far is still in the chump change category when compared to say PPE “mishandling”. We can easily afford to double if not triple that figure, even if it feels like it’s born of guilt from not receiving and welcoming a fair quantity of Ukrainian refugees into the UK.
Ah yes because Boris single handily was the only reason the UK supported Ukraine. Not a single other person in the UK cares or wanted to support Ukraine
Putin wins.

Next PM keeps giving weapons becomes new best friend for easy political points.
Everyone prepare for Liz Truss running off to Ukraine for a photo op when things at home get too tough.
It’s politically convenient for the UK Gov to support Ukraine. It takes away focus from their own failings and gives the UK populace a “common enemy”.
No politician is ever going to cause controversy by supporting Russia’s enemies. I fully expect which ever unqualified Tory we have as the next PM to carry on in the same fashion.
Boris Johnson did well on Ukraine, it’s churlish to deny that.
It should also be noted then it was Ben Wallace who was an advocate for arming Ukraine way ahead of Russia’s invasion as Western security services have been suspecting such a move even since Crimea. One reason for Ukraine’s success in dispelling Russia’s initial march on Ukraine wasn’t just the sudden influx of arms in the weeks prior but the Western-aided build-up of Ukraine’s defence for years prior.
But the biggest factor that should reassure Ukraine is that this support is deep routed in the U.K population. The voices advocating anything other than full support of Ukraine are on the margins of political discourse.
The next useless Tory PM can make hapless Johnson our ambassador to Ukraine / Russia, or special advisor or trade envoy. Just give him a one way ticket and a nice title. Maybe take Prince Nonce with him, they will either die as heroes or return as failures.
Wallace is still defence secretary.
so ukraine is fine.
I’m no fan of Johnson at all, but I don’t see how any intellectually honest person could claim he wasn’t leading the charge on Russia sanctions and proactive measures long before other Western leaders. It’s about the only thing he has ever done right from what I can see.
Purely anecdotal, but I was in an Uber a few weeks ago in New York, snd the driver was Ukrainian. When she realized I was British, she was emphatic about how much the Ukrainian people appreciated Boris Johnson, how much the visit meant, how the UK were seen as such staunch allies etc.
Whether it was a photo op, an opportunity to distract, or he thought it was his Churchill moment, the result is the same.

He’s not their best friend, he’s a sociopath.
