Liz Truss claims she will make it harder for Tube and bus drivers to strike

  1. Aye ok then we should raise the threshold for election from “most votes” to needing a majority.

Taking payments which are usually pretty low anyway and most don’t claim them as it is is just attempting to bully poorer paid workers into not voting.

    Fuck her and the Tories.

  2. And they will probably make it harder for people to travel by bus and tube when they quit and find an employer that pays them properly.

People have to feed their families and banning formal strike action will only drive people to worse alternatives.

here’s a thought Liz, maybe you could negotiate with them like a reasonable human being.

  3. Strikes show that people are demanding change, and if everyone is striking it shows that a lot needs to change. If you then ban strikes, don’t be surprised when people protest or riot.

  4. Oh god trust this to come out when I’ve JUST said ‘It’s gonna be a Truss govt, i think they’ve already decided, Sunak’s the only one putting out suicide policy’

Jury’s out again boys, place your bets.

I’m honestly in disbelief a rational human thought ‘lets take away peaceful protest’ and thought it’d going to remove the protest, and not just the peace.

  5. Claims. Note the word, remember the claims of all these lovely trade deals, that were in effect just replacing the EU-country deal with UK-country deal, or worse terms.

Boris Johnson promised this years ago and has done nothing. Perhaps because no Tory donors get a direct benefit.

  6. We take it for granted but for the overwhelming majority of human history working class had nothing and no rights and the ruling class owned everything. Go back merely a 100 years and this is exactly the case. A 100 years is within a human’s lifetime.

We are simply transitioning back to those times. They never cared, continue to not care and will never care about the working class

  7. Can’t believe the membership considers her as PM material. And quite frankly it pisses me off that party’s can swap and interchange our leadership every 2-3 years on a whim and we have no say in it whatsoever.

  8. So she’s fash. No shit. The whole of the Tory party are these days, as they’re complicit in the pro fascism lean that the party is undertaking

  9. We need one more war, maybe two more. Total destruction and annihilation. The NHS came out of ww2, next time round a truly functioning democracy. I don’t want it, but it’s abundantly clear humans all got way too fat and privileged and forgot what mattered, just like every post war generation since forever

  10. Tories are so out of touch that they can’t see that nearly the entire population supports the rail workers and other unions fighting for better pay.

  11. “We’re cutting your pay by 10% or more and we’re also making it illegal for you to withdraw your labour.”

They’d bring back slavery if it go down so badly with their focus groups.

  12. Does she want riots and – potentially – revolution? Because a working class that is hungry, cold and can’t withdraw their labour is a breeding ground for radicalism and revolt. Historically speaking, anyway.

  13. I’m sick and tired of the Tory rhetoric that states:

    * If you’re not like me, that’s a ‘you’ problem.
    * If you don’t live like me, that’s a ‘you’ problem.
    * If you don’t make as much money as me, that’s a ‘you’ problem.
    * If you don’t believe the same things I believe, that’s a ‘you’ problem.

They could like, actually try to be a government and address some of the issues people are facing. This shit is getting old.

  14. Okay. So a bus driver is a HGV driver who can find work anywhere, and a train operator is a skilled position that requires some serious training time.

In both cases, albeit for slightly different reasons, once gone they aren’t easily replaced.

So her solution is to give them no options in the job so once they’ve had enough, no strike, just quit.

…I swear with the brains she has her favourite nightcap must be a tall glass of leaded paint.

  15. Unless she’s going to send hired thugs to physically make strikers go to work and stand over them all shift she’s setting herself up for a huge embarrassment when her orders are ignored. What will she do then? Issue an even sterner ‘you’d better do as I say’ and pout? You can make things illegal, but that doesn’t mean they still won’t happen.

  16. The Tories hate democracy. They are ideologically opposed to the plebs having a say. Hence Raab trying to rip up the human rights act, erode the power of the courts to stand up to politicians. It’s why Braverman is banning her people from telling ministers their plans are illegal. It’s why the Tories are criminalising protest.

If we don’t get them out soon we are in for a really, really bad time.

  17. Tube drivers might earn decent money but my son’s earning more a week into a bar job than a trained bus driver does round here, I’m not sure why anyone does it.
