Serious questions should be asked how the DPP thought it was OK to downgrade the charges from attempted murder to assault.
They must have thought there was a strong case if they allowed the charges to be preferred in the first place, but then it seems they couldn’t be arsed to prosecute the case and took the easy option to accept a guilty plea on a much, much lesser charge.
Whole thing seems so dysfunctional and is being gamed.
