Liberal Democrats call for scrapping of energy price cap rise

  1. Oh, it’s that time the Libs come out with a policy in the hopes in might be a hung parliament.

Do you know, when I was a kid the Libs actually stood for something?

  2. This is making Keir Starmer rocking on his heels with his hands in his pockets whistling look all the worse.

Even fucking Tony Blair new Labour would have been fighting against this if it had happened in 1996. The captain is asleep at the wheel.

  3. Listening to the fuckin brain deads on here is just ridiculous. Its Starmer/Labours fault, they’re not doing anything!! They’re out flanked by an 80 seat majority because England gave us the tories… again…

Everything thats happening is because of that. The only people that can influence or change it, are the ones causing it. Don’t you fuckin get it? Only the government with the majority can pass things in Parliament. This is all by design.

Not Blaming all the people that voted tory, but calling out others who have no power or influence, is fuckin stupid.

  4. CONs +10

So what? Words are cheap. Unless the LibDems and Labour* settle their differences and negotiate and do whatever it takes to have a progressive alliance/coalition gov/scrap FPTP then it’s Tories, Tories, Tories all the way in to the future.

**And I’m talking about the parties themselves and the bickering Team Yellow and Team Red arseholes on here. I’ll vote for whoever in my constituency can keep out/unseat a Tory but it’s pointless unless the non-Tory parties start working together similar to how the Cons, UKIP, Brexit Party and BNP do.*

  5. Title is misleading. They recommend sceapping the next increase but using money from the windfall tax and VAT to cover the shortfall.

Remember, energy suppliers buy their energy on the global market. The cap is meant to prevent them from charging consumers too much and it includes all the costs associated plus their profit margin. With prices on the global wholesale energy market expected to keep rising (due to Russia Ukraine war), then a lot of energy suppliers would go bankrupt because they would be forced to sell at a loss. But the Lib Dems are saying that this 36bn shortfall could be covered by using money from elsewhere, like windfall tax and VAT revenue.

  6. I’m making a loss because of stagnant pay and no payrise. Why can’t massive energy companies make a loss as well? We’re all in it together, right?

Or, how about, the government let’s me pass on my increased costs just like companies pass their increased costs down to the consumer? I’d like to go into siansburys and just pay less for everything, thanks. Better still, I’d like to pass on my increased costs to the taxman. I’ll be paying less in tax please.

  7. Any single British person who is not rich or a business owner, yet voted Tory, is a class traitor and unable to make rational decisions by themselves. They made their bed, now they can fucking lie in it! (just like the brain-dead Brexit pricks)

  8. None of these fuckers (Tories) are gonna act soon. Its all lies. They’ll say that they will, they wont. They’ll leave prices to rise as long as they can for pure greed. It’s alright for them though as their hands are in all pockets of the energy companies. Remember with Covid and it was ‘save granny’? Well they’ve just fucking killed her this winter.

  9. I think it’s fair, these companies are making record profits during a time when people can’t feed themselves, I think you know now the money is going to the wrong place

  10. I think everyone in the uk wants energy cap rise scrapped, the only people that want it are the conservative government…a small minority of the population
