Thames Water to introduce hosepipe ban as extreme heat warning issued

  1. How generous of Thames Water, telling their customers to stop using their product in order to save money during the cost of living crisis. They really are putting people before profit.

People should think twice before criticising businesses in the future! Bravo!

  2. Eugh.

25% of water is immediately wasted by these companies in the forms of leakage

Of the remaining 75%, about 5% is used by residential consumers, another 5% by industry and the rest by agriculture.

Of that now 3.75% used by your average Joe / Joanne, the vast majority goes on bathing. It is hard to be specific, but it is doubtful that hosepipes use much more than 0.1% of all water in this country.

This is very much being seen to do something, rather than tackle just how shit the infrastructure is in this country.

  3. No new reservoirs since the 80s despite population and housing growth. A quarter of water lost to leaks. Infrastructure so outdated it’s a wonder it even works. Somehow it’s those watering their garden or washing their car to blame!

  4. Was it a Thames Water burst water main that was dominating the threads yesterday?

Water needs to be the first utility that gets renationalised. It’s beyond a joke now

  5. What an absolute scam of a fake crisis. Hosepipe is less than 1% of water used. Start with the factories and big companies.

  6. Thames Water can get in the bin. They need to sort out their wastage before they start telling customers what they can and can’t do.

  7. Who are they to ban hosepipes?

Until they fix their leaky infrastructure they can’t seriously ban something which millions don’t even use anyway!

  8. Hosepipe ban as it sounds better than poor water management. How a country like ours with an abundance of lakes, lochs, rivers and one of the biggest reservoirs in Europe always runs out of water after a few dry days beggars belief!

  9. The overlap between the people who are fuming about this because of the leaky pipes issue and people who would be fuming if a load of eco hippies had sat in the road in 2021 demanding leaky pipes get fixed is just one circle.

  10. Nothing to see here. Business as usual is absolutely fine. Don’t get all uppity about natural things that nobody can change. Have some candy and go watch Love Island.

edit to add /s in case it wasn’t painfully obvious.

  11. I don’t see this working or how it could be enforced.

Instead of making it our problem, why don’t they just fix things on their end to save water? Is it not their job to provide enough water for everyone?

  12. Maybe if they spent some of the profits on fixing leaks instead of shareholder bonuses we wouldn’t need a hosepipe ban.

  13. Keep getting emails from them about this as if they can’t see from my smart meter that I use fuck all water as it is. Live in a flat too so don’t even have access to a hosepipe lol
