‘No end in sight’ to high Irish car prices, whether for new or second-hand vehicles

  1. Slightly off topic, but today I passed a porsche hybrid jeep, my son said they cost around 100k.. I wouldn’t believe him but they do. Who the fuck can afford to buy something like that??

  2. I bought a car on PCP in 2020. Final lump payment of 12k is coming up early next year. Quick look on done deal sees 2019 models with higher mileage going for 32k. Madness but I’m happy. Even taking all payments into account the car is still worth more than that….2 and a half years later. Madness.

  3. The market’s fucking mad. Missus bought herself a 2011 Micra back in 2019 and it’s been our sole mode of transport for the last three years. Three solid years of driving around, and if she was to sell it now for the going rate on Donedeal she’d get double what she initially paid for it.

Who knew in 2019 that the best mid-term investment to make would be buying up old Nissan Micras eh?

  4. So, I guess getting a second hand car right now is insane? I just want and reliable car… Something I can use for 1-2 years… Really cheap, small… No luxury…

    What do you think?

  5. The DoneDeal price index for the second quarter of 2022 last week showed that second-hand car prices were nearly 64 per cent higher than before the Covid-19 outbreak.

In fairness done deal only know the along prices, I’ve seen people asking for up to 2k for 20 year old 1 liters, no way they’re selling for that money
