Can confirm. Working in retail and can see the pricing history. Even on essential goods like veggies and fruits prices went up.
I feel sorry for those living alone, a lot of packages and amounts aren’t made for them.
Try to compare some different places and adjust to what’s available during specific seasons (don’t buy veggies off-season) will also go a long way.
We have to get through this some way or another and I don’t expect help from the government or others.
we used to buy our grocery’s for like 40~50 euro’s, now 70~76… not much we can lower our price on more when the cart is already filled with homebrands the main thing that eats the cost is the drinks wich the husband does not wonna get storebrands from, so we try to go to germany for those when we can (1 pack here = 2~3 packs of the same soda in germany) and we just stockpile it abit while it’s on promo (and in the end even with expensive gas prices we get it back out and we just turn it into a “day out”).
I lost count of all spillindex this year.
Hangt heel veel af waar je je boodschappen doet ntrlk. Als ik me goed herinner is colruyt nog steeds goedkoopst, hun prijzen zijn maar ~5% gestegen
Belgian supermarkets are in a fucked up position. They just can’t compete with bigger foreign chains because of economies of scale (Colruyt just can’t negotiate the same prices as Intermarché) and much lower labor costs and since Belgium is such a small country there is quite a bit of leakage when it comes to bulk purchases in supermarkets.
We pay more as consumers but our supermarket chains also have quite low profit margins in an international context and a relatively small scale (so they don’t make up for small margins with high volumes)
