Will Europe Force a Facebook Blackout?

  1. We can hope, but won’t happen as Meta is losing against TikTok in US.

Their revenue from Facebook and Instagram has plummeted, while users don’t want another video app so stealing from TikTok doesn’t work, WhatsApp and Messenger is losing ground fast against Telegram or Signal, so keeping Meta products alive in the EU it’s about survival as wall street sharks are starting to bet against their stock.

    > “My guess is that Meta is going to have to look at some form of geo-siloing if they want to continue to operate in the EU,” says Calli Schroeder, global privacy counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center, a nonprofit digital rights research organization.

There’s the solution. Please comply or fuck off.

  2. The problem with Facebook is that it serves for an “adressbook” for many people you are not so much in touch with, but might need to get a hold of in the future.

That Guy you met in austria on the interrail, years back, might be handy when you have to move to Vienna for Work.

Facebook absolutely took away the need to keep track of the people you only know in the perifery, and even if we in europe find a replacement, what about All the people we know outside, and do we even manager to reconnect with everyone again in the first place.

Facebook is crap overall, but it is also an important tool for your network
