What annoys me is the media (including mainstream) portrays the debates as if they are for anyone to decide on, not just idiot Tory Party members, so we are hearing endless god awful boasting about what they are going to do, but the vast majority gets no vote – although on reflection, they are serving a purpose of showing us exactly what idiots the Tories serve, and people do eventually get a vote, although it’ll all be spun away of course over 2 years.
And what’s the silence from Labour about regarding all the nonsense they are spouting? Are they scared to attack it in case Boris stays? Starmer seems to have been executing a single policy of get Boris out, I hope he knows he can do better against his replacement.
The ‘*while Rome burns*’ has been an argument I’ve been pushing for years. The UK has lost its’ status as a superpower whilst older generations keep baying at the lost glory of Great Britain over the years. We’ve lost a lot of its’ colonial territories (and for the right reasons), and turning ever slowly inwards on ourselves to the point we are now – squabbling over the last few coins left in a failing state.
Comparisons can absolutely be drawn to the fall of Rome:
* Financial troubles
* Growing wealth inequality
* Reliance on ‘slave’ labour
* Government corruption and political instability
* A system too big to govern effectively with poor leadership
* The fear of ‘outsiders’ and peoples you’d previously been aggressive towards begin growing in power, and your bridges are already burnt given your previous actions.
I’d argue this is where the USA are currently as well.
Fiddling while Rome burns so they can build their Golden House in the ruined aftermath. Very good metaphor tbh.
