Ed Davey calls for halt to energy price cap increase to avoid ‘catastrophe’ | Economic policy

  1. I don’t like the idea of the government subsidising energy because wealthy people use a lot more than poor people so the wealthy get subsidised more.

I think some sort of progressive charge might work better. Your first few kWhs a month are cheap, then another more expensive bracket and so on until you get to the point where people heating swimming pools and 6 bedroom homes are paying a shit load per kWh to subsidise those who use little.

  2. Is there an argument to summon the world war 2 spirit and convert some of the underground stations into “warm shelters”? Use the crisis as something positive for community spirit. We’ve become so fractured as a society.

  3. What’s the matter Ed? This is the free market in action. Surely somebody from a party with Liberal in the name could see this is just the blessed hand of the market discovering the best solution to our energy needs.

You couldn’t side with like Labour in the last two election because they have no clue what reality is. No no. We need Labour to be more market focussed. Leverage your position as the noble protector of the free market to herd Labour in to a move-centreward or steal enough of their votes that they lose to the Conservatives.

You have absolutely no right to claim that this isn’t what you want. You literally spent the last decade forcing this. [You wrote chapters in the orange fucking book about it](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Orange_Book).

This is what you get for pulling the economy backwards when people are struggling. Just resign. You have no place in politics.
