Personally, I support Lithuania, however I have heard many Germany people say that the EU should support China over Lithuania in this dispute. Germany, more than most EU countries, is highly dependent on trade with China. Now the conflict between Lithuania and China is dragging the entire EU into it, and put the entire EU’s trade with China at risk. The EU now has to choose between abandoning/cutting off one of it’s member countries (not a good option) or risk having China cutting off the entire EU, which, which would be devastating for all involved.
I have heard/read Germans openly stating that they would rather side with China (and with that, abandon Lithuania) over risk destroying Germany’s economy over a fight that isn’t’ even theirs. But do you think? Should Germany support it’s member states even when the stakes are this high?
I won’t put my political views here, just wanted to say, that I hate Winnie the Pooh & Pals… horrible show, if you know what I mean. Talking about the show, nothing else.
Fundamentally, Lithuania has done nothing that is wrong or in opposition to the common values. It deserves and needs the support of the union in this dispute with a bigger, threatening neighbour. This is one of the key reasons we negotiate trade deals collectively, and indeed the continued existence and prosperity of the common market relies on us standing together in the face of external aggression.
One more reason for the EU to integrate further. Don’t put Lithuania or Germany or whatever on your exported goods, but European Union. Act as one entity, and don’t negotiate separate trade deals. Unite, unite, Europe!
But unfortunately the country has not asked the other EU members beforehand about their opinion and acted completely on its own, without any counseling with the others. Now that China reacts as expected and announced Lithuania suddenly asks for solidarity.
For me this is not the way we should act in Europe.

I have all sympathies with Lithuania here.

“Threatening Germany’s trade with China”

I think Germany’s incoming government is doing that just fine on their own. About time too.
