More worrying than the heat, for me, is the complete lack of rain. Locally to me it rained once the day after the two days of crazy 40c temperatures and then all but nothing for the next 2 1/2 weeks with absolutely no rain on the long range forecast for this week – every day is forecast hot and sunny.
We’re going to keep getting more wildfires and more crop failures until we get a sustained period of rain.

I’m glad it’s still green and pleasant in my part of the country with no hosepipe bans, I just hope the southerners don’t start invading.
[84.4 million litres of water per day are lost through South West Water’s leaky pipes](https://weownit.org.uk/company/south-west-water) and despite having some of the highest rates in the country (and making some of the highest profits for shareholders), they still can’t get the supply right.
BBQ time I’d say
*phone really wanted to correct that to “BBW time”… which I would also be fine with
Good. Fucking loving the fact we have a proper summer and not just greyness.
Living in London, I can’t even remember the last significant rainfall it was somewhere beginning July. It lightly rained for like 5 min 2 weeks ago if I am remembering it correctly. It’s just becoming a bit depressing.
Everything is just dead and dry, I haven’t had a comfortable day in weeks. When this article says second heatwave I am sitting here asking if the first one ever really stopped? It’s been nearly 30detgrees inside my apartment everyday since the beginning of July.
I really can’t wait for this summer to be over sadly winter will be gone way too fast and we will be here again in 10 months.
Not for the North….looks like 2 days again.
Good, I need to justify buying that industrial sized fan after the last heatwave.
Unprecedented.
There has been a water leak outside my grandparents house for over a week, pissing away gallons and gallons of water, it has been reported dozens of times to South East Water and it is still flowing down the road being wasted. Makes me so cross
The giant yellow ball… It scares me
At what point does a heatwave just become the new normal?
Temps aren’t gonna get colder, so when does the entire summer just consist of a constant months long heatwave?
God damnit, can it just rain a little bit, my front and back garden looks so sad. I’m sick of sitting in the sun on hay.
tl;dr global warming is causing instability in the hot jet stream that flows over Europe, less cold air means it is splitting into two branches and creating a hot zone over south England and France.
And this is very bad because it suggests these ‘once in a lifetime’ conditions will start to happen regularly.
Been going to a Reservoir local to me every few days for a walk, the water levels are starting to get really low to where you can start walking near the middle of it.
30 degrees Celcius is a heatwave these days? Hilarious.
I’m in north Kent and we’ve had pretty much no rain in the last two months. A couple of weeks ago there was a very gentle shower that lasted a minute or two, but that’s it. I can’t wait for it to rain.
So, Summer then.
We really really need rain. So many wildfires, quite a few too close for comfort. I feel most sorry for the wildlife, the water I put out has a literal wildlife queue.
It was hot back in July ’22 what are you on about with a hot day in August why back in my day we would through the English desert up a mountain taller than Everest without rest. Good old ’22. /s
It’s a summer similar to 1976 in lack of rain, luckily this summer has been cooler than 1976 in the main as 1976 had week upon week of 30c+ temperatures.
The weather broke at the end of August in 1976, just after the minister for drought was appointed.
Waiting for the climate change denial..
A glorious summer. Nice one to all on their holidays. A touch too hot on a few days but other than that.
I’ve got no less than four festivals I’m working on over bank holiday weekend.
Fucking *guarantee* it’ll be warm and dry up to that weekend, then absolutely cunt it down like you’ve never seen.
So don’t worry folks, sods law says I’ll be bringing plenty of rain to these shores before long…
Liz Truss vows to ‘crack down on heatwaves’
I’m concerned for those attending Boomtown Fair next weekend. Temperatures are gonna rise to high 30’s. Hopefully no carpark fires again but there’s always gonna be some feckless bucket-hat filled with too many pills and not enough water.
Drove past the reservoirs on woodhead pass this weekend and was deeply scared about how low they were
South East has been almost totally dry for months now. I went to Essex last week to visit family and the ground in the fields was cracked like a desert.
Parents get their lawn watered by the local farmer when he waters his field so they are ok, we have a relatively green lawn at ours still

Keep safe fellow Brits
Down here in Cornwall, [my local reservoir is as low as I have ever seen it](https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/gallery/forgotten-land-exposed-cornwalls-largest-7426748).

Here’s a French study explaining why we’re having this prolonged period of dry heat (in French): [https://www.meteo-villes.com/actualites/double-jet-stream-ce-phenomene-qui-favorise-vagues-de-chaleur-et-secheresses](https://www.meteo-villes.com/actualites/double-jet-stream-ce-phenomene-qui-favorise-vagues-de-chaleur-et-secheresses)

It’s almost like it’s summer or something
We used to call it summer
