Cork’s iconic former Debenhams premises comes on the market for €20m

  1. Hope they find something good for it. It really is a big landmark building right in the centre, but there’s not exactly a lot of large retailers that I can think of that would jump for it.

    So I suspect it might end up going down the Queens Old Castle route of redevelopment into a ground floor retail, offices (or preferably apartments) above. Which wouldn’t be terrible IMV. Although if that does happen I hope they activate more of the Maylor Street side.

  2. Seems fucking mental price wise for what is a beautiful premises in a city that is struggling with half of the main street empty, and collapsing buildings on the others.

    I love Cork, it’s my home and I’m a proud Corkonian – but fuck me the council are just letting it decay. I get that they have some nice projects underway like Bishop Lucey park but they need a good kick up the hole to sort out the basics and to drop annual rates for new businesses for a few years to encourage empty units to reopen.
