  5. It’s really an epidemic. They’re like snails after rain. And beware, it’s not good thing, those zabkas be funding the clergy as their owner donates to Rydzyk

I have recently moved to Poland for work and seriously I don’t mind Żabka presence at short distance because as an Indian I am accustomed to buying stuff from mom an pop grocery stores in the nearby vicinity for daily needs. Post COVID I had got hooked to ordering groceries via hyper local e-commerce apps. I’m back to my in-shop buying habits which makes me realise how Spoilt for choice I was back in India and I find this as a welcome change for myself.

    I was not expecting an extensive footprint of such stores in Poland because I’ve worked for few years in US too and going to a target or a seven eleven store would require me to drive to the nearest store

  11. they have an expansion policy: when you exit one Żabka you have to see the entrance to another. And they are pretty fucking close to this.

    We used to have żabka in my city. 1. Then they closed it and now there’s been no zabkas in the area for years. The closest one is in the next city like, 30 min away-

    …. Although we have Dino now–

    Dino, Lidl, Biedronka, Netto, Twój Market, Lewiatan, Used to have odido but they closed, and some other stuff. But no Żabka.

  21. Their omnipresence is super convenient, I can’t deny that, but the way this company works is by exploiting their franchisees and using dumping strategies to ruin the competing shops. And yes, having two Żabkas 20 meters from one another is one of the ways they’re exploiting their franchisees.

    My neighborhood’s independent grocery store was recently replaced with a Żabka, and another nearby grocery store closed. I can see two Żabkas on the same street just after going to another entrance to my apartment block. In the radius of 500m, there are at least 5 Żabkas here (or maybe more, I haven’t checked all the smaller streers in my neighborhood).

    A kilometer away, there are two Żabkas on opposing sides of one apartment block…

    It really is too many.

  29. They are also opening more and more of the NANO żabka stores where staff is only necessary for inventory replacements. You just scan your app, walk in, take stuff from counters and leave. Payment is automatic, zero human contact.

    When those become more popular, zabka will evolve into single entity and take over the country.
