A roundabout & a bicycle bridge in Naaldwijk (Netherlands)

  1. This isn’t a roundabout, is it? Looks like it has traffic lights.

Also, that slight gap between some of the road, making a small pocket where you have to yield again, but not a large enough space to not block the road behind you.

  2. Seems quite messy at first, but I have to admit, that design is kind of interesting. I’d definitely fuck it up the first time I drove through there, but I could get used to it.

  3. So this is why bicycling is so very popular in the Netherlands. It’s not because it’s flat; or because the infrastructure is great; or because people like bicycling. It’s so you can avoid having to ever drive through this roundabout in a car.

  4. This reminds me of [Viinikka “roundabout” at Tampere, Finland](https://youtu.be/GJMw0qk9fLI), except this one looks pretty logical. The locals call it Viinikan liikenteensekoittaja (traffic mixer/messer).

As time goes by, it seems to be evolving. I think it might have a mind of its own.

  5. Scrolled passed this at 5am and had to take a double take. I really thought they covered this traffic circle with plastic wrap

  6. Its my hometown. This roundabout was built to handle the traffic from and to the Bloemenveiling and the surrounding greenhouses. It’s much better than what was there before. Traffic is also much, much better, this also connects to 2 highways with another couple of roundabouts.

On the picture bottom right goes to Rotterdam, while top right goed to Den Haag.

If you want coordinates, put this in google: 51.97833105137445, 4.218943251936871

That is also the location of the previous bridge. Which was one of the only locations to get across.

  7. Can you turn around in this roundabout? If I skip my exit and I have to go back, just like a U-Turn but using the roundabout. Is it possible?

  8. As a resident of Westland, which Naaldwijk is part of. I would like to set a few things straight.

This is not a roundabout, but a traffic circle. and therefore has trafficlights.
Roundabouts are great, until the maximum capacity is reached. Then they become terrible.
When the limmit is reached it will be impossible to merge onto a roundabout, which will result in a massive jam.

This intersection is placed between one off the densest agricultural areas of europe (Westland) and two large city’s. Namely: Rotterdam and The Hague. The amount off traffic that passes this intersection is massive. A simple roundabout without trafficlights will be completely useless and very unsafe.

To the people saying that this is confusing, I can assure you it is not. While aproaching the intersection you choose your lane, after that you wait for the green light and follow said lane. You do not have to wait at every seperate crossing because all the lights are synched to make every crossing as quick as possible.

cyclists to cross the road. And the cyclists do not have to cross a buisy road with a large amounts of massive trucks.

  9. I wouldn’t want to be the ambulance personnel trying to get to a bicyclist in the center of the contraption. Imagine that sprint…
