  2. Mandatory donation contribution with every application that goes directly to VSU
Requirement to answer yes/no question: “Do you support Russian aggression against Ukraine”
Possible to consider: requirement to say “Putin huylo” when crossing the border.
    Welcome to Europe =)

  3. From the article, read before discussing:

Germany on Thursday rejected calls for an EU ban on tourist visas for Russian citizens, stressing that sanctions should not harm innocent people.

“This war is Putin’s war,” Chancellor Olaf Scholz told a news conference in Berlin, **EU sanctions should target President Putin, and those responsible for the war on Ukraine**. “**We have adopted far-reacting, concrete sanctions against many Russian officials, oligarchs, and powerful groups in Russia**, **but if we extend these measures to all russian citizens, including those who are against Putin’s war, then it would reduce the effectiveness of these sanctions**,” Scholz added.

Earlier this week, **Finland and Estonia called on other EU members to stop issuing tourist visas to Russian citizens, in response to Russia’s war on Ukraine.**

“**Visiting Europe is a privilege, not a human right**,” Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas tweeted on Tuesday.

    Thoughts and opinions are welcome.

  4. Banning Russian tourists would

    * keep them from spending their money outside of Russia

    * fuel the regime’s claims of russiophobia

    * take away yet another possible source of true information about the war or the real world in general

    * make permanently leaving Russia less likely, thus slowing the drain of workforce

And it has no benefits. So it just doesn’t make sense.

  5. I do feel sorry for ‘normal’ Russians they haven’t done anything wrong and will face xenophobia simply due to their background

  6. I don’t think we need a full ban either but I really like the idea of some special tax or fee and all that income will be used to further arm Ukraine.

So every Russian deciding to enter the EU pays for weapons for Ukraine.

  7. Just when I thought Germany couldn’t disappoint me even more. Will I get downvoted again for calling their stance on ruskies at least dubious?

  8. The only profiteer of a european tourist-ban will be Erdolf Hitlogan (that’s also the background for accepting MIR and paying energy in rubel, as they got „elections“ in 2023).
It’s pretty sure not solving any issues but suppoting another autocratic regime that’s already causing severe problems for the EU/Nato

  9. i really dont give a shit but it seems to me like there is as much against it as there is for it. and when in doubt do what fucks over russia the most.

  10. Don’t we want to make russian citizens SO pissed off with their leader in as many ways as possible that they start unrest?

Allowing them to vacation anywhere they want whilst Ukraine is being genocided is plain wrong. All this “what about the innocent russians” is absolute leftist tripe and dangerous.

We wouldn’t be physically hurting these people in any way, just denying them a bloody holiday or whatever. Sheesh.

  11. I would support banning russian tourists. All the intelligent people have already left or can apply for a skilled worker visa, so I don’t see why the average russian, who surely is a fan of putin, should be allowed into the eu.

  12. I’d rather block 100% of Russian tourists entering Europe than letting 70-80% of Putin’s supporters throughout. As they say, “visiting Europe is a privilege, not a human right.”.

  13. >“But if we now extend these measures to all, including those completely innocent people, then it would reduce the effectiveness of these sanctions,” Scholz added.

How exactly would this “reduce the effectiveness of these sanctions”? Sounds like a BS excuse to me.

  14. I’m mixed when it comes to this.

The biggest advantage of blocking tourists is that it prevents skirting sanctions for the few items that its logistically feasible to do on a tourist visa.

The biggest disadvantage is that it locks yet more people into the make believe world of Putin and provide a big obstacle for Asylum seekers.

I don’t buy that it provides a significant obstacle for espionage. At that small scale, it’s too easy to fake nationality.

One can argue that it would push the conflict into being a conflict involving all Russians. As it looks now, Russia still has not declared war because it would be unfavorble for them to do so. They have problems with dessertions and a shortage of volunteers.

Hurting the average Russian could push them to oppose Putin, or push Putin to do some unpopular decision. But it could also unite the rather large group of “I just want to live my life and forget my Political powerlessnes” group behind Putin and enable him to do a general mobilization.

And I don’t think there is a way to tell which result it will end up closest to.
