We had one in Spain that claimed exactly that (Ciudadanos, about to disappear). It was a centrist party that “could” negotiate left and right, but in the end only did it to the right. It claimed to fight left and right populism, but in the end basically shouted nonstop that right wing was the only way. It claimed they didn’t have ideology and only wanted to manage the country efficiently… And apparently “no ideology” meant being economic liberals and socially conservatives. Who would have thought that the “centrist anti populist” was actually right wing populism in disguise… Well, actually lots of people saw through them, and that’s one of the reasons why they are disappearing
