I’m in favour of putting water in the category of wet elements.
In other news, popes shit in the woods and the bear is catholic.
I may be getting confused.
German Greens on life support
Does anyone listen to Macron these days
Meh, better they put nuclear in than fossil gas. It will inevitably get outcompeted by renewables in most situations anyway.
Edit: Typical thoughtless responses. Good job gang!
Green taxonomy is key to emissions reductions for the EU’s climate goals, and there is literally no way nuclear can make a significant contribution to the 1.5 degree C goal. In France it might help somewhat, which is why Macron is pro-nuclear, but it’s in the context of net-zero 2050 for him if you look at his other recent statements. To keep warming to 1.5 degrees we need to totally defossilise Europe’s power sector by 2035. We might have a few SMRs in specific situations by then, and maybe a few new traditional nuclear plants, but in the vast, vast majority of situations across Europe RES is faster, cheaper, more flexible to deploy, and starts pushing fossils sources off the grid almost immediately. Even the IEA (which has underestimated RES in every report for the last two decades) sees renewables doing most of the decarbonisation work.
Has Macron really become Based or is this just for the election?
This is interesting to see how, in his speech, he is comparing nuclear with gas, but still considering that gas and nuclear are in the same category of energy. This is clearly in order to reach a compromise with Germany and other nuclear sceptic countries, because there is absolutely no reason to put gas and nuclear power on the same category, gas emitting much much more emissions than nuclear.

Macron does more for the climate than all other leaders combined.
Fu-sion! Ha
Nuclear might be better than fossil fuels, it isn’t green, it isn’t a renewable, and France’s attempt to greenwash its current energy situation instead of actually doing something sums up everything wrong with our current climate plans.

Green groups have really fucked up with their stance on nuclear, if they had come to reason and decided that it’s a nessecary stopgap to reduce emissions, we could have a modern network of high-output, low emission power stations operating across the EU, right now. Instead they kicked, screamed and insisted, ‘never nuclear!’ so we carried on burning coal, oil and gas, while huge swathes of low output renewables are slowly installed, which still isn’t enough to power the grid without fossil fuel backups. But remember Green groups are demanding climate action NOW! Just not the one thing that would of made a huge difference….
Sure, fight fire with Napalm. Makes sense.
In these trying times of high inflation, France’s nuclear power singlehandedly keeps the French inflation rate the lowest within the EU, since the hike in oil and gas prices concerns them the least.. not to mention the ecological benefits.
