‘Zombie government’: more than half of departments delay key decisions

  1. You can bet new laws on “Online Safety” is about 0% related to Online Safety and 100% related to giving people less privacy or legal protections for government misuse of their data.

  2. Do remember that ones of BoJo’s edicts was to cut 90,000 civil servants so many departments have been busy trying to put together plans for that and now deal with the aftermath.

  3. Of key note to those that might try and spin it as “civil servants being lazy”. Departments require ministerial sign off for a whole host of functions; decisions and policies. Even something as simple as seeking an exemption on valid grounds for a policy can often require ministerial approval.

It’s the Tory Ministers as always preventing government function.

Same as they actively blocked anyone even other tories that try and do actual work. See their prevention of Lord Agnew pushing to be given the ability to chase after fraudulent covid loans only to be blocked from pursuing that by the Tory government.

  4. Considering the amount of bureaucracy they insist on putting in the way of even the simplest decisions, no shit. Getting anything done in the public sector takes months because of the number of hoops you have to jump through before the first step is even drafted. It is like pulling teeth to try and get someone to reply to an email promptly, let alone get the work you need done.
