The reason the talks are collapsing is because the offers being given aren’t fair offers.
What Arriva are failing to mention is that over the last few years they have cut driver pay significantly. They forced staff to take a very small lump sum and then reduced their hourly pay significantly by several pounds an hour.
They have removed incentives and have cancelled flexible working arrangements. They’ve removed staff which in turn has put even more pressure on the remaining staff. They’ve messed with routes – they’re no longer scheduling anything taking into account “well X likes doing this route and Y likes doing that route, we’ll schedule each to their preferred run where possible” which is the way it’s worked for years. This paragraph is possibly restricted just to my location, but the pay cut info is across the board.
Yes the offers being given make the drivers *technically* the highest paid. But that’s ONLY because they reduced pay for everyone across the board.
The drivers are simply fighting for what is right and fair.
Putting it to a vote now risks a small majority accepting an unfair offer because they think it’s the best they’re going to get. The union is right to hold off on putting it to a vote until Arriva decide to actually provide a decent offer.
Bus drivers literally just sit on their fat arse all day. Grow a spine Arriva and get rid!

Is our government doing anything positive at all?
