Moien,

Luxembourg is one of the most expat-friendly country in continetal Europe in terms of linguistic capabilities of its residents. Even if you do not know a single word of Luxembourgish/French/nor German, you will not face any issue with daily life.

However, it is very important to know the local language(s) if you really want to integrate into the society and Luxembourg government has an initiative which supports non-Luxembourgish residents with the integration.

“The Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region Department for Integration ” (“MIFA” for short lol) offers “Welcome and Integration Contract (CAI)” from which you can benefit from free classes for history etc…Orientation Day for socialising and most importantly provides vouchers for language learning. If you make an application and sign up for CAI, they will give you a voucher for which you can use any government approved language schools and only pay 10 euros per semester for either Luxembourgish, French, or German classes. This is really good offer as even if the class costs normally 280 euros, you only need to pay 10 euros with the voucher.

If you meet the requirement (attendance etc…from the 1st semester)\_ you will be eligible for another voucher and so on until you reach 3 semesters (or classes).

This voucher can be used for courses from INL or Ville de Luxembourg and any other approved language centres.

Please visit the below website to enrol if you are interested and start learning!!

It is not the most user friendly website and procedure can feel little overwhelming, but it is totally worth the effort!

Whether you want to brush up your French/German or start learning Luxembourgish for naturalisation or just for better socialising, don’t miss the opportunity.

  1. I have done this contract.

I highly recommend it. It’s super interesting and the discounted language lessons are an added bonus

  2. Ah, finally. I been waiting for this. Learning our language is much appreciated by the locals.

Great that you put this usefull info together.

  3. It’s says non-Luxembourg residents. That make it seem like it’s for frontaliers?

    >The Welcome and Integration contract (CAI) is a voluntary integration programme for non-Luxembourg residents aged 16 and over. It is offered by the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region and aims at facilitating the integration of signatories and their active participation in life in Luxembourg.

  4. Absolutely recommended. I just signed it a few months back and will hopefully start my first language class soon. The officials are very welcoming, friendly and approachable.

  5. I already signed up a few months back and am hoping to start attending classes soon.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a french language course school oout of the ones mentioned which are in Luxembourg – ville or Walferdange?

Ive been trying to contact INL, but no one seems to respond neither by email nor by phone.

    Thanks in advance.
