“Aan de bak in den bak”: Ministry of Justice is looking for new prison staff at hard rock and metal festival Alcatraz

  1. **The Federal Justice Ministry is also present at the Kortrijk metal festival Alcatraz this weekend. With a recruitment campaign “Aan de bak in den bak”. There are many vacancies in the prisons.**

**Prisons and detention centres are looking for a lot of new blood, not only for the classic position of security assistant (cipier/gardien in colloquial terms) but also for jobs such as detention supervisor, social assistant, nurse and psychologist.**

**VAN QUICKENBORNE: “THE RIGHT PROFILES AT ALCATRAZ”**

Federal Minister for Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne explains: “There is scarcity on the labour market. Not only companies are looking for suitable candidates for their vacancies, this is also the case at Justice. That is why, for the first time, we have drastically accelerated the recruitment procedures and are looking much more actively for suitable people. We have to do this in the right place. I am sure we will find those candidates among the metal fans. I know the metal audience well: they are people who want to contribute to a better society and help their fellow man. Those are the profiles we are looking for. A lot of festival goers will not only find a weekend full of metal fun at Alcatraz, but also a new vocation to go to jail.”

    **SEARCH FOR DETENTION SUPERVISORS**

A modern prison policy must provide even more tailored guidance to promote the reintegration of detainees and prevent recidivism. Within the wide range of tasks of the over-crowded prison staff, there is not enough room for meaningful detention, working on reintegration and avoiding recidivism. It was therefore decided to split these tasks into two functions, with security assistants on the one hand and detention supervisors on the other.

The security assistant is mainly responsible for surveillance, control and observation to ensure the general safety of everyone within the prison. The detention supervisor, on the other hand, has the specific task of guiding detainees from day one towards their eventual return to society.

Many other prisons are also looking for extra security assistants, social workers, nursing staff and psychologists. It concerns, amongst others, vacancies in the prisons of Antwerp, Beveren, Bruges, Ghent, Leuven Hulp, Leuven Centraal, Hoogstraten, Mechelen, Hasselt, Merksplas, Turnhout and Oud-Dendermonde.

  2. Cool initiative but I don’t know why they wouldn’t open it up and be present at different festivals.

  3. Actually, this sounds like a pretty decent idea. Surely, some folks will mock it, but it likely beats doing another unsuccesfull ‘desk at a job fair’ somewhere.

  4. 1. People go to a festival and listen to music to RELAX, not to be hassled by job-recruiters (especially for such a difficult & stressful job.. As if the overkill of commercials & promo isn’t already a nuisance.. throw that on top of it, why don’t you..
    2. But of course, metalheads are the “only” perfect people to work in prisons, especially since the festival itself (in VanQuickenborne’s hometown, where he’s mayor) is called … A L C A T R A Z … it’s like it was written in the stars.. -_-‘ … imbeciles & artistically impaired technocrats should stay the f*ck away from this..

  5. This is incorrect. I know a lot of friends of mine that tried to go for prison guard all of then got equal scores on 100 which was 33.

One of them worked for the department of justice and still was declined. This is just them being desperate. They kept rejecting people and saw like fuck we rejected to many time to change tactics. Some with the Belgian police. They reject people for the most bullshit reasons but then I see people who don’t give 2 shits about the job pass with flying colours. Really sad they have to get so low when they just need to adjust their recruiting standard and process
