Although not officially permitted, Swiss mercenaries were not only active in Europe’s wars during the late Baroque period, but faught also North America. Swiss fighters of the Karrer Infantry Regiment lost their lives in Mississippi during the war between France and the Native American tribes.

  1. Amazing to think about. Leave Switzerland to take boat for 30 days to get to America, join a bunch of French speaking soldiers fighting indigenous people. Get killed in the bayou.

    Some people have fascinating lives.

  2. The natives had an advantage on the french/swiss. Anywhere else that their reputation had preceded them, the swiss would intimidate the other army to shit themselves (sometimes into submission). The natives just seeing more french-looking soldiers, kicked their ass as if they were indeed french.

If i had a deadly reputation going on, i would want to forget about this.
