The political climate was very different at the time. The jet company was a Finnish one that occasionally rented Russian owned jets when their own were not available for example due to maintenance.
If these news were released prior to 2014, no one would’ve seen the Russian ownership of these jets as a bad thing. More likely the news would’ve been about the millions spent on private flights.
The title is just misleading and makes it seem like the Russian banks paid for the luxury flights too or something
Edit: not trying to defend them or anything. President Halonen has had some sketchy stuff going on with the Russians but I don’t think this is one of them
