Being a Polish socialist, I am quite glad that the West is not as full of braindead anti-communism as are the most of my fellow countrymen
Like many ideas on the Internet, “communism” no longer means one thing to all people but is rather a popular word that can have any number of emotions (positive or negative) attached to it.
To say that Stalin’s regime was not communism (as defined in Karl Marx’es Communist Manifesto) is an objective fact, evident from the violently maintained class system.
It should also be pointed out that people saying communism online could actually just be referring to *any* alternative to capitalism, since public discussion on the topic has decided that the only two social models in existence are capitalism and communism
Are they? Are they really praising communism? Or are you perhaps treating anything left of hard-right catholicism-infested swamp as ‘communism extremism’, shifting the narrative and helping nobody by doing it? Haha funny meme lol.

Jordan Peterson is right about the lack of education about history and communism in the West, and I’m afraid we’ll all see it again, unfortunately.
I was told not to refer to Poland as “East European” By other friends before visiting.
I think there’s enough differences between Stalin and Sankara and the legislature in Kerala India to show that communism even in practice is not monolithic.

I grew up with stories of my relatives who came here in the first half of 1900s from Socialst Poland. It’s a shame my liberal friends never could benefit from their Babcia recanting how much life sucked under that establishment.

Polish socialism wasn’t communism, we were robbed by the USSR and was a strange hodge-podge of ideas. Yes, in 1980’s there was nothing on the shelves, but it was because of Soviet friendship.
People look up to systems different than capitalism, because it obviously has faults and it fails to deliver – by working as intented.
But we, Poles, don’t know communism. And that’s a fact. All we know is a mockery of socialism practiced by the “Benevolent Soviet Union”

The thing though is that when they say communism they think of different thing compared to what it means to Poles, Ukrainians, Lithuanians…
