Truss vows to clamp down on ‘militant activists’ after being heckled by protesters at Tory hustings

  1. She lives in cuckoo land not realising that these militants are not commie nut jobs but people who had enough of the lies, corruption and destruction of the British way of life and they speak for millions who feel the same way and everyday the numbers swell.

  2. Note the redundant ‘militant’ that is there purely to scare people. But it is to be expected from a government who actively degrade trust in the legal system by talking of ‘leftie’ lawyers and take political discourse into the gutter with name calling such as ‘Captain Hindsight’ (this NEVER used to happen, it is purely an innovation of the current government, their fawning over the US republican party tactics, and their disrespect for norms of discourse). It is shameful from top to bottom.

  3. > “I’ve had enough of all of this democracy stuff, and citizens being able to freely criticise their MPs. It’s got to stop.”

I suppose it’s nice of her to be so transparent about her platform, and with the steps the current government has taken with protests I think it’s clear that the “slippery slope” into our ability to speak freely is coming from plain old right wing authoritarianism.

It’s just, I was told it would be due to not being able to be racist on Twitter or something.

Regardless, given the attack this clearly is on our freedoms, I have no doubt many conservative voters will *immediately* change their minds about voting for the Tories, given that they’ve previously been so committed to protecting the right to speech. Right?

  4. “I will never ever, ever allow our democracy to be disrupted by unfair protests.”

The democratic process whereby <1% or the population get to choose our leader. That’s FPTP for you! The game of Tory leadership musical chairs continues.

  5. Why the F are we following the American political model and having the worst possible 2 candidates to run the country? This is beyond scraping the bottom of the barrel, this is moving the empty barrel and scraping the slime underneath it.

  6. I find it mental how we are classed as “militant” by this lot for rejecting a 2% pay rise with inflation hitting 10% along with massive changes to terms and conditions working practices a 50% reduction in maintenance and 2500 job losses.

Who the fuck would accept that ? 2% wouldn’t even cover the rise in petrol we’ve seen let alone energy food and other house hold bills most of which have risen higher than inflation.

Should MPs be offered 2% but for that 2% we need to remove nearly a third of MPs ? Should we change their conditions so that they have to work endless night shifts ? Along with removing all benefits like expenses ? They wouldn’t accept that kinda shit so why should anyone else.

  7. They keep making harsher and harsher laws against protesting and then when people don’t obey those laws and continue to protest they apparently think the solution is “Even harsher anti protest laws”

  8. I welcome our descension overlord!

I so looking forward to be told what to do and think rather than have to do it myself!

Heavy dose of sarcasm just incase you didn’t pick it up!

  9. Protesting is a fundamental right. Without it you won’t hear opposition. This is such a terrible dynamic straight of the adolf playbook

  10. Let me get this straight. You are replacing Johnson with someone even dumber as your leader.

    Lol wtf

  11. Thing is…. you took away our right to peaceful protest, leaving us only with militant protests as an option.

    You reap what you sow.

  12. It’s just so hilariously depressing that this woman, in less than thirty years, went from “we should abolish the monarchy” to “let’s clamp down on anyone that dares criticise the establishment”

Perhaps the third stupidest thing the Lib Dems have done, after letting Clegg make the tuition fee pledges and ignoring Cyril Smith’s blatant child abuse, is pushing Liz Truss into the waiting arms of the Tory right wing

  13. waiting for the first “re-education program” announcement

looks like fascism is coming into style again….

  14. I really dont like the language she is using. So anyone that protests is a “militant” including trade unions on strike asking for a living wage. Here we go…..

  15. I cannot believe I live in a country where Liz Truss could be PM. Boris (as much as I despise him) I understood who he was a thing. Truss I just cannot.

I’d rather vote for a baked potato.

  16. And very soon you won’t be allowed to protest, they have bills going on right now that will take away all your personal rights to say anything.
And you all acquiesced over the past few yrs to this, by conforming to all their mandates. Mandates are not law.

  17. Maybe she should just start clamping down on her own drivel. Seriously the conservatives are just trying to outdo each other with the dystopia.

  18. When they start putting people on watch lists for their perceived extremism or domestic terrorism is when we’re definitely heading into some kind of dystopia. This isn’t good for either side, silencing protests, even if commie nut jobs or extreme right are part of these, it means simply protesting government decisions is a crime and you can be sentenced for alsorts like terrorism and hate speech which so much falls under. Why do they alwaus want to control people and ensnare us? We are their own country and people for gods sake.. I have no idea what it is with governments always infighting with their own. Makes no sense
