Halewood man who killed burglar after seeing break-in via Ring doorbell jailed

  1. I suppose the elements of the case that went against him were travelling to the site, with arms, while he could have simply called the police.

  2. Struggling to rationalise that kind of sentencing in my head to be honest. I mean, they couldn’t even pin murder on him – 19 years is a hell of a sentence.

For reference, that’s far higher than the sentences Andrew Harpers killers got.

  3. He was too violent with it. That’s why he’s locked up.

No sympathy for the dead criminal, the world is a better place without violent burglars.

If this ever happens to you, don’t go overboard. Worst comes to worse, plant a knife / weapon on the corpse.

  4. “”was by no means perfect and innocent, but never did anyone ever, ever, have the right to take him from me”.”

And your shithead of a son had no right to break into people’s houses. Good riddance.

  5. Sounds like they’re sending a message that it’s not okay to kill someone just for taking your shit (like the old Tony Martin case).

From reading the article, the intention was clearly to kill the guy and not just let him escape. Literally ‘overkill’.

On the positive side though . . . One less thieving piece of shit.

  6. > Commenting after the sentencing, Detective Inspector Sue Hinds said: “While no result can repair the pain and grief Jordan’s family have endured, I hope that they can experience some closure in knowing that Townsend and Cunningham are now behind bars.

    > “I hope that they will both reflect on the significant harm that they have caused, while serving their time in jail.

    > “I’d like to thank Jordan’s family for their strength and dignity throughout this difficult process, particularly after they were put through the ordeal of a trial. I’d also like to recognise the dedication and hard work of our investigation team, prosecuting counsel and CPS in ensuring this successful outcome.“

Jesus Christ, as much as the guy went too far the police are making it sound like the burglar was an absolute angel who didn’t repeatedly put himself in situations where he could some retaliation

  7. If someone breaks into someone’s home, I believe the homeowner should be allowed to assume the worst, and do whatever it takes to defend themselves until they are no longer in danger. If the attacker dies, tough shit.

That very very very obviously isn’t the case here. I have a pretty hardline stance on the right of a homeowner to use violence in the face of a threat, but the person was not under any threat.

  8. He went to a location, armed with a knife intent to attack someone. He attacked them, chased them from the property and then continued stabbing them outside. How is it not murder?

  9. Pretty clear that no one has read the article here. The killer wasn’t even at the property, he chose to arm himself and went to stab some people. There’s no self defence argument there. The sentence seems very much deserved imo.

  10. A class A drug dealer and a burglar. Could be looked upon as a stroke of fortune to have both of them taken out of society.

  11. One drug dealer out of society for 19 years. One scumbag permanently removed from society. Win-win.

  12. This guy got what he deserved. He went home carrying a knife this suggests he had intent to use it. How this man slaughter god only knows if he had stabbed the burglar once then maybe but did it several times.
No defence murder in my book.

  13. >He was knifed in the outer edge of his left eye, with the weapon severing his right optic nerve and piercing the skull on both sides.
    >
    >The blade was “wielded with such force” that it snapped, with a portion of the knife remaining lodged in his brain.
    >
    >Mr Brophy was then stabbed again “a number of times” before another blow entered just above the right eyebrow, leaving a further section of the knife behind.
    >
    >Townsend is then said to have “attempted to run him over in a car”, but missed and crashed into a garden wall. The prosecution said the burglar was then pinned against a Fiat 500 and stabbed in the neck three times with the “remnant” of the same knife.

Bit more than defending his property.

  14. I have to say it’s the first time ever where the homeowner looked more like a burglar and the burglar looked more like a homeowner.

  15. 1. The responses in to this are (for the most part) absolutely sickening.
    2. Multiple people are spreading lies that the burglars were armed or prepared to engage in violence. These claims are contradicted by the article and other sources.

  16. It’s frightening to see how some people think in this country.

Thank fuck we don’t have some of these people voting on laws. It’s like reading the daily mail comment section

  17. WTF is wrong with the BBC reporter? They’ve omitted so much detail from the trial that it makes it seem like a completely different crime.

Do people seriously think a violent drug dealer should get a slap on the wrist because the victim was burglar/ wannabe drug dealer? What about the risk the killer presents to the rest of society?

  18. Mad seeing your little home town no one’s heard of on the front page of reddit. This happened only a few streets over from where I grew up.

  19. > Townsend stabbed Mr Brophy repeatedly in the head, face and arms inside his home, before stabbing him again in the neck on the road outside, the court heard.

Yeah, continuing to do it outside will do it….well, one of many things that justifies the sentence really.
