Some Irish soldiers ‘refused entry to US after peacekeeping duties’

  1. This feels like a situation which needs to be resolved stateside, with US relatives raising the issue with their Senator and Congressman/woman

  2. That’s what happens when you turn up to US immigration without carefully reading the requirements. All you have to do is apply for entry through the embassy instead of the online ESTA route, there’s no actual issues with getting in.

  3. If you have been to Iraq, Iran or listed countries you can’t automatically get an ESTA. Its silly when people are doing it as part of there duty, but years of tightened immgration rules lead to this stuff. They should be able to apply for a 10 year visit visa without any issue but thry have to plan for it and wait extra for the checks. The EU is going to implement a similar system so US and UK visitors will start having the same issues.
