Party Suspends Politician Over Grooming Claim

  1. Reading this makes you feel as if Ireland is a communist country. The party this, the party that. Only one party to rule them all

  2. Must be one of the smaller parties, surely. Which is why they can’t identify the party as it would lead to inevitably identifying the person.

  3. The naming of alleged perpetrators in any case of a sexual nature, and any case involving minors, has its own sets of rules and restrictions.

They may be avoiding naming the party because it may lead to identifying the politician here, like if it’s a smaller party or if enough identifying details are released that people can work out who it is.

That said, rumours are already rife

  4. Surely the party should let the constituents know that their politician had the whip suspended in May?

  5. Extremely shite to see Twitter convince itself it must be [Some Guy]. And then [Some Other Guy].

Cannot imagine anything worse than having that rumour go around about you and you have absolutely nothing to do with it. Reputation-wise like. It would actually haunt you like.

  6. So, respecting all legal requirements etc., is it just a case of keeping an eye on Dail numbers when things get going again after the recess or is this likely a Councillor? Probably local authority level as surely media would have used ‘TD’ rather than ‘politician’?
