  1. We need longer prison sentences for violent crime. I don’t care if you make them nice holiday resort type prisons, just keep these dangerous people away from the public

  2. Yet another crap sentence.

Violent assault should carry five year minimum. With the sentence being longer for gang-type assaults like this.

They’ve changed this poor bloke’s life forever and got 2 poxy months. It’s a joke. There’s little doubt that he and his scrotes of mates will do it again.

  3. Maybe I’m missing something here, but the 2 younger guys were sentenced to 9 years + 3 years on licence, so this isn’t a “sentencing” issue??? (although I’d say 10 years for ruining the lives of 2 people directly should warrant more)

  4. Oh my god I remember reading this from last year!

A man who went to his local park to protect *i think* his child from violent bullies and ended up getting attacked himself, the story got buried quickly but I’m actually astounded this was the outcome. Permanently brain damaged. Jesus fucking Christ.

  5. The kid begged the other 2 to stop and then handed himself in

Doesn’t exactly sound like a hardened dangerous criminal

  6. “Alan’s family say they are struggling to receive benefits or medical compensation.”

The first thing this young man receives on release should be a demand for payment, backed up by threat of civil proceedings.

A good solicitor could have him paying for the rest of his life.

  7. So he hit the guy once in self defence, begged his friends to stop hitting said guy, then turned himself in to the police? Why exactly am I meant to be outraged at him being freed “within weeks”?

  8. Why brain damage is not considered equally to murder? It’s not like the person will ever be able to get back to “normal”.

  9. I am not condoning this sickening attack in any way – but

Suspect the one who got lower sentence gave evidence against the other two to ensure their conviction? Or did not actually take part in the attack – I don’t know

The other two teenagers got nine years plus 3 years supervision – which is more in line with aggregated manslaughter sentencing – for a GBH charge

What do people want – Bring back Capital Punishment
