KABOOOM! OH and the production of hydrogen requires lots of electricity too, so not so green
I get there’s a risk when using hydrogen, but AFAIK a lot of that can be mitigated with modern tech. Regardless, as dumb as it sounds I would rather be blown up in a hydrogen explosion on the bus to work than starve to death as food supplies collapse and we slowly bake to death on this planet.
Hydrogen transport is *waaaaaay* down the list of “Things to Use Hydrogen For”.
Intermittency of power generation is the first, and producing fertiliser is the second. We need 70 millions tons of hydrogen every year (the world, not Ireland), so best get started.
After we’re producing it really cheaply and have some spare we can start looking at moving bigger vehicles over, like ships, lorries, etc.
Are these lads day dreaming or something? There aren’t even Hydrogen powered lorries available yet, and the electric lorries that are available are 2x the price(300k) of the top of the range diesel equivalent, with way less range and load capacity(due to battery weight). I do agree hydrogen/electric is the future of goods transport, but it’s a long way off yet
This is just another way to continue to have *fuel* oligarchs. Green energy is inherently independent and requires nobody. Anybody pushing for hydrogen based transportation, be it public or private, is clearly trying to find an in for corporations or what not.
Its creating problems where we already have solutions: electric vehicles. Any proposition of alternative fuels is bait to further wealth inequality.
