you could start by offering hgv licences to the unemployed instead of giving them 3 month sanctions if they try to do courses their own savings, that would get them a job.
then sort out the lack of facilities for drivers to use on journeys, that make the role a literal shit in a bag job.
of course it was just fine getting migrants to do it, and play the working class against each other, since its just racist to suggest otherwise.
Shortage of drivers, or shortage of wages matching the work?
Seems only certain areas got much of a pay raise. Up in the in the north I haven’t noticed the hourly rate budge much at all.
I jumped from one company to another, not for pay, but for less hours. Way too many haulage company want drivers doing 60+ week in week out.
By essentially lowering safety standards, sure, you can increase the amount of drivers.
Getting those drivers to actually work in the industry is a different story, as the career historically hasn’t been very attractive. *Keeping the accident rate pre-Brexit for much heavier lorries is also a different story.*
