Greek border guards beat up and deported EU interpreter after mistaking him for a refugee

  1. Hope to see this case in an international court.
The far-right government has turned the coast guard into something very similar to the Nazi SS.
They have to be punished for that and I don’t mean just to lose in the next election.

  2. It’s not really a major revelation that Greece is breaking EU law by torturing and deporting asylum seekers without giving them a chance to apply for asylum. There was a ton of evidence provided by [investigative journalists](https://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/europe-s-brutal-and-illegal-approach-to-migration-our-orders-are-clear-nobody-gets-through-a-2b65b102-46ce-4160-b8c4-7970cf631229) and even Frontex had video evidence of such incidents (though tried to destroy evidence in some cases), as the investigation by LIBE (EU Committee) revealed.

So far there was no political will by other EU countries to deal with the situation, as this treatment is just a symptom of the root issue: that Greece is largely left alone to deal with the situation. If all you get is an insufficient amount of funding to deal with the situation, then sooner or later first opinions and then policies change. This case means that the topic likely has to be dealt with and a new solution found. The options seem to be either a European redistribution (which is incredibly unpopular) or publicly acknowledging that not all human rights will be upheld anymore (which is also incredibly unpopular). Or attempt to not make a decision between these two by trying to also push this case under the rug…

  3. Reading how detainees on top of getting beaten, were stripped of their cellphones, money and documents clearly signals a third world country treatment and not something i would expect of Greece.

If the interpreter’s story does indeed hold any validity then an intervention should be in order and the perpetrators punished, after all respecting basic human rights is not a European value but an obligation of all civilized beings.

  4. There are serious questions that need be asked, if we’re having people beating up people. Especially if they’re not even bothering to identify who exactly they’re being violent towards.

This is behaviour that’s befitting of thugs, not a border guard!

  5. So was he helping the immigrants break into Greece? How did he end up with the illegals that were forced back?

Sounds to me like he was assisting in their trafficking from turkey to Greece and when caught they were all pushed back.

In which case, if he wants to press charges it will be very funny when he has to explain how he ended up with that group of people.

It will also be funny to see what these violent acts were. Inb4 “pushed away with force”.

Either way, try to break into the EU illegally , you should be forced back imo. No preferential treatment. And if you are involved in those illegal crossings with the illegals you should be charged. No excuses.

That said theres a paywall so i apologise if theres more info that I cant see.
