Good breakdown on the developing shitshow that is student accommodation 2022-23
What’s the point of a government who constantly tell you how impotent they are? 😂
It was a clusterfuck that no one could have predicted and, anyway, you can’t build student accommodation over night. /s
Our property rights are too strong.
They’re limited alright.
The ineptitude is just staggering
We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas
>The students had paid deposits but their purpose-built student housing is now going to be used for long-term lets instead.
Long-term lets to who?
I thought purpose built student accommodation had planning permission restrictions that prevented it from being used for long term let’s and holiday accommodation outside of term time. If they got planning permission without that then there needs to be an investigation as to why, and who made that decision.
Somebody is worried about mammy and daddy’s votes will go, but fuck the rest of us right?
You’re only limited because you refuse to regulate anything.
Students are budgeting 1000 a month, I’m a full time employee and couldn’t afford that. We’re fucked in this country.
All the cunts objecting to property developments for their own selfish reasons should be castrated, greedy culture in this country.
Apparently six storey development would be detrimental to the locals
This first became an issue in 2014, when the then FG Taoiseach, Enda Kenny said that we couldn’t build houses overnight. He said this on three separate occasions. Here were are with nearly a decade of FG policy later. We couldn’t build them in a decade either. Another generation will leave and the problem will be solved the FG way. Sorry that was the FF way. I confuse the two sometimes.
University’s and Colleges etc shouldn’t be able to increase their student numbers unless they can prove that they have affordable accommodation for those students. When did these two things become separated. Make the institutes build student accommodation for their students. For example ATU sligo has no official accommodation. It relies completely on private companies and private renters to provide accommodation for its students. There’s a massive shortage of housing yet there building a massive new building for the technological university. The government should make it policy that third level institutions have to provide at least 90% of accommodation for student numbers and at an affordable price. This won’t fix the problem over night but it should be in place for the future.
He could play the character Fat Cat in an Andrew Lloyd Webber show and all they’d need to do is stick a tail on him.
This is what an Irish traitor looks like. This Man would pay a price in a real Republic.
Has there ever been a more useless minister ?
His jowls are getting humongous, he’s like an Irish Pinocchio, they grow bigger every time he lies.
His talking bull….just like Airbnb requires planning so does purpose built student accommodation. There is a lot he can do.
If developers tried to build private apartments they probably wouldn’t have got planning for so many 1 beds. They got planning because it was close to uni and built specifically for students.
Can students not learn from home? Genuine question.
If only the government could influence government policy and laws…
Long term lets!. How long do they think students stay in college for, 4 months. Purpose built housing and all WTF
His heads about 2 foot long. Horrible person inside and out. Big gluttons head on him.
