>but watchdog called breaches ‘minor and/or inadvertent’
Well, at least he’s done *something*.
“Speaking at the time, Starmer said he was “absolutely confident” he had not broken the MPs’ code of conduct.”
Weird that he thought it wasn’t a breach at the time.
Who would have thought that there would be no problems or negative headlines by framing the entire pitch of the Labour Party on one man’s personal integrity and capacity to never fail to meet rules perfectly?
Oh dear.
Although it won’t matter one jot.
In the end he’s just another conservative (note the lower case) hungry for power.
What a fucking embarrassment he is. Just resign ffs.
For him to refuse to resign would just show him up to be a massive hypocrite.
Edit: Sorry everyone, I didn’t realise this sub follows Tory party guidelines now. Code of Conduct breaches are fine, nobody should be held accountable for what they’ve previously said, or views on “resigning matters”.
Minor breaches like this doesn’t usually make headlines.
Leave Keir out of this, he has a great head of hair.
Anything that gets him sacked asap is good in my view. I want the tories out of government the next GE and that won’t happen with labour under Keir.
Careless and not in keeping with his “forensic” image, but apparently not significant.
And so the suspiciously irrelevant media attacks targeting any leader of the opposing party to this evil government continue, year after year, leader after leader. You would think the left would care more about the media bias against labour politicians after what happened with Corbyn, but no, they eat up this sort of media criticism of Starmer like tories taking political donations from the Russian oligarchy. “It’s only money, what harm could it do?”. – “It only helps me confirm my pre-existing confirmation bias against the current last hope for repairing the U.K, what harm could it do?
Anyone remember Ed Miliband’s bacon sandwich? Lefties who won’t vote for Labour because of Starmer are allowing themselves to become slaves to right wing propaganda, it’s that simple.
Right wing smear ….
He has to go. His whole political project is based on him being so righteous and just a few weeks ago he was adamant that he had not breached the code. He must resign.
Meh, a tories gonna tory.
I’m sure he’ll resign in shame any minute now…
And so what thats just normal these days or has the guardian forgot the tories.
He still has more integrity than the whole of the Conservative Party combined.
you can’t breach code of conduct if you are not an MP. /s
Disgraceful. He should resign immediately. Unfit to lead. etc etc etc
Well that’s it then, I can no longer vote labour in good faith, I’ve locked myself in my bathroom, and I’ve been crying for 25 minute straight. Why would labour do this????

But nah, for real, this country is fucked.
Good. It’s the most interesting thing he’s ever done.
Breaching the MP code of conduct has similar repercussions to breaching the Ministerial Code. You are lightly beaten with a balloon on a stick and told to stop being naughty.
I assume he will resign then?
The BBC article on this (currently top) says all you need to know about our national media’s bias.
Minor / inadvertent offences laid out with such detail with a footnote at the bottom “Boris Johnson was found to have breached these in 2018 and 2019”.
That seems rather convienent timing for the tories. I mean, they have done far worse but they’ll milk this for all it’s worth and blame everything on labour.
Christ, Boris has been getting backhanders from dodgie Russians for years

His position is obviously untenable.
No longer Mr Rules, [he called for Sturgeon to resign prior to any conclusion to her alleged ministerial code breaches, and he even went as far as to specify that whether the breaches were deliberate or not were immaterial](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/mar/19/sturgeon-should-resign-if-she-broke-ministerial-code-says-starmer).
For him to refuse to resign would just show him up to be a massive hypocrite.

[Here](https://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/standards-and-financial-interests/parliamentary-commissioner-for-standards/complaints-and-investigations/) is a site where you can see lists of complaints made against MPs.
