Europe’s future will be decided on its southern borders, when the droughts force more and more Mesopotamians and Persians to look for new homes, and we have to make the hard decision either to impoverish ourselves by taking care of them, or to become villains and shoot as they charge the fences.
At least the conflict in the east is still a sophisticated, political conflict, between governments, between rational actors. This won’t change Europe, this is the stuff that Europe is made of. The desperation and cruelty at the borders in the next decade, THAT will change Europe.
I sincerely hope not, because this is going to be one shitty future for all of us.
