Rishi Sunak considers compensation for people hit by hosepipe ban

  1. They are both really hitting the key issues of today.

Hose pipe compensation, stopping solar and wind expansion, reducing or removing biscuit tax, unbanning dangerous carcinogenic pesticides and herbicides, cutting pay for nurses and teachers, banning dissenting online opinions of the government, and of course, lots and lots of lovely fracking!!!

These are truly the big issues of our time!

  2. This sets a worrying precedent, are we going to pay tax payer money for all water company shortcomings?

Private Water companies make millions while not maintaining infrastructure or developing new infrastructure…now we must pay

  3. I admittedly was quite surprised the hosepipe ban took this long to come into force, the summer’s basically over now and I would’ve thought parts of the country would have had it during the July heatwave. Compensation for hosepipe bans is such a stupid policy, why are both candidates so wilfully supporting the destruction of our planet and depletion of resources ffs?

  4. We could compensate people

Or we could force water companies to stop the 1/4 of all water leaking away

Touch private profits? Don’t be silly. Of course we should have the tax payer compensate other tax payers and leave the corporations alone

  5. What is the likelyhood that this compensation is being floated around because it’s the southwest that is struggling and not like Northumbria or Greater Manchester.

  6. Why don’t they invest in ways to store more water thorough the year? Other countries invested on that an as a result there are no bans when it doesn’t rain in summer, as they were already prediction 3-4 dry months. If this is the new normal, surely they should find a long-term solution.

  7. Err I want compensation for having the crapest weather for the whole summer. West coast of Scotland has had pish weather all summer!! I want to be compensated with 2 weeks in antalya all inclusive.

  8. If you own enough land that you need hose pipe to water your garden, they’ll get you compensation if any of your plants die.

If you live in a bedsit and don’t have a pot to piss in, they’ll give you nothing. You can go ahead and die.

  9. Could the water companies maybe fix their leaky pipes or I dunno, pipe more water in and treat it… We are an island surrounded by the stuff.. use some profits and increase supply?

  10. Really shows how these policies are about demographic, not ideology, when the Tories are happy to regulate water companies for the sake of *uhh* people with lawns, but don’t give a fuck about regulating train contractors to protect commuters.

  11. What about f*ing compensation for the f*ing overpricing on my f*ing energy bills from the f*ing big energy companies who are making f*-you record profits?

  12. Natural monopolies shouldn’t be privatised.

At minimum these companies should be fined, based on the water they lose through systems they haven’t maintained.

  13. Great work Rishi, first your war on ‘woke’ and now hosepipe bans. You’ve really got your finger on the pulse of the population.

    What a cunt.

  14. Ah yes… The 0.1% water consumption waste needed a ban.

At the same time the 0.1% of water consumption via garden pipes is soo oppressive it needs Compensation.

… Why I am still of Earth?
