I’m a software developer and my company relies almost exclusively on free and open-source software. There are plenty of ways to give money as an individual and I already do so, from Patreon to Github Sponsor to OpenCollective or even software bounties. Some like Patreon provide a monthly consolidated receipt while OpenCollective make 1 receipt per donation, which isn’t very convenient. For Github I’m not sure what can be featured https://docs.github.com/en/billing/managing-billing-for-github-sponsors/about-billing-for-github-sponsors on the receipt but I would hope the company name and VAT to be shown.
If you do already support open source as a company, not an individual, how do you do this right? What are the pitfalls to avoid?

As an Open Source maintainer of several projects and working at a company that doesn’t support open source with donations (though I do get some time to contribute every once in a while).
I just want to thank you. I don’t know the answer to your question, but I wish more companies realised the insane value they are getting for free and would actually support Open Source.
