Archie Battersbee: Family apply to European Court in battle to move boy to hospice

  1. And then when this fails they (or their fundamentalist backers) will come up with some other bollocks to string this out for another week, and then another and another.

  2. As posted on another post- the family/mother are being incredibly selfish at this point. Rather than deal with their grief they prolong the suffering for this poor boy to help mask their conscience that they are somehow helping him, when all that they are doing is preventing a dignified death.

Now they want “dignity” in dying in a hospice? Where was the dignity when they bounced around all the different courts? Where’s the dignity in dying in a hospital corridor because the boy couldn’t survive being moved into an ambulance let alone reaching the hospice.

They say they’re doing this all out of love, but I don’t see love, I see willful ignorance and denial of the facts so that they might not have to deal with the fact, that this poor poor boy is dead and died months ago had it not been for the machines artificially keeping him alive.

They direct their anger and energy towards healthcare staff and the legal system rather than just spend time with their boy, they need therapy and psychological support not lawyers

  3. Good god, this is getting idiotic at this point. Surely they are wasting the courts time with this

  4. This is just further stall tactics. At first I thought this was the family accepting reality and thought give it too them. But then realized the boy most likely won’t survive transport and they know it.

  5. The year is 2097, Archie Battersbee’s family apply to Skynet in battle to move skeleton to holistic wellness centre.

  6. When all is said and done and he is buried or cremated, his parents will start regretting not spending more time and energy with him instead of all this legal stuff faster than you can say “European Court for Human Rights”.

  7. The European Court of Human Rights said last time that they won’t get involved with the rulings so idk why they think they’ll do something now.

I feel so sorry for that poor boy – he died months ago and he still isn’t at rest. Instead, he’s rotting in a hospital bed.

  8. This is insane at this point. What are they doing to the body of their child. Coz thats all this is now. Their child died in april when the incident occured. I’m not going to speculate on that. Waiting for his body to decompose on the machines it seems. His internal systems are rotting despite intensive support. This is harsh terminology i am using i know but its facts. If they were to move him to a hospice whos to say the physical movement won’t tear his skin and leak out over the family and staff? And traumatic would that be, your last memory of your child is that? If this goes on much longer that is what will happen. The vent will burst his lungs due to the pressure and decaying tissue and it will leak out of his mouth? Is that what they want? Nobody in their right or wrong mind will want this. Yes is graphic but its the reality of what will happen.

Do i have sympathy for all involved yes i do its heartbreaking but this stopped being about ‘Archie’ months ago when his brain herniated into his brain stem. You cannot recover from this. It would break my heart if i had to look after this poor child. Ive worked in ICU for adults and been part of brain stem testing/withdrawal of treatment. Once active treatment stops they will remove the machines and allow the family their privacy and time with him until his heart stops. The mother is her own barrier, the nurses cannot leave him if he is under active treatment which theu were fighting for until yesterday. If they withdraw the family will get that time they want the ICU team with ensure it. And yet the mother states they dnt care for him. She also calls them murderers which is so far over the line its unreal. They have kept his body alive for 4 months in all of this media circus knowing there was no chance of recovery. How is that not caring for him? How?

It needs to stop! The court appointed guardian is there for Archie as they are impartical and it has to be that way. No hospital can keep someone alive forever no matter the advances in science as proven by his body breakimg down.

  9. This went too far weeks ago! At this point she and her family have shown that they just want to win!

This poor lad died, and that is sad, but it is also a fact. Her continuous attacks on the people who cannot speak out ,because they have a duty of care and confidentiality to her son , are nothing more than an attempt to whip up sympathy for her money grab and her Christian fundamentalist backers to say ‘we need to change the law’

    Here’s the question – what changes ?

They are at this moment demonstrating that there are plenty of safeguards in place to ensure that patient , and in this case , parental rights are considered – just because you don’t like the outcome that doesn’t make them wrong.

Her unwillingness to accept anything other than her will doesn’t make her a caring mother – this is abuse!

  10. It’s a crying shame that this continues. She talks of dignity for her son, yet photos of Archie continue to spread on her own social media of a very sick young lad. She knows nothing of what dignity towards her son. I was very speculative of rumours on this until I read the court hearings for myself. It’s awful that this is happening. Sleep easy Archie.

  11. The media aren’t helping with constantly giving his mother the attention she is clearly fighting for to keep Archie’s body constantly in the spotlight. When their son can finally pass, I wonder what her next fight will be? The NHS staff? The courts? When will it end?

  12. The way I see it is the mother thinks she’s leading a movement. She sees herself as a freedom fighter who is setting a precedent for other parents like her. If enough parents fight every medical decision to the highest courts of the land, then eventually they’ll “get the message” that parents should always have the final say when it comes to the care and treatment of their own children, regardless how misguided the parents are. This isn’t about Archie anymore. It stopped being about Archie weeks ago. It’s about the movement, to win any petty victory possible and begin a revolution in parental rights.

In her eyes, history will remember her as a hero, but in reality she is a fool who will quickly be forgotten.

  13. I’ve read on Twitter there is a vigil outside hospital being organised. Mother’s social media/Archie’s army have requested as many people as possible go to the hospital tonight for a vigil/protest. Also seems to be merch on sale of t-shirts and monkey plushies with Archie’s face on.

  14. This woman’s genuinely either delusional and selfish or cruel as all fuck, seems like she only wants to keep him “alive” (he isn’t alive at all) so she can continue to beg for donations to cover the “costs of his medical care’ despite it all being covered by the NHS – ironically, while she slags them off and accuses them of anything and everything that pops into her maladjusted brain.. feels harsh to say, but is it any wonder this lad chose suicide? She said public humiliation was the “only way” to “keep him in line” 😳 she’s a fucking lunatic
