>Several Bolt food couriers opened up with *Times of Malta* about the shocking working conditions they liken to “slavery”.
Pro-mass migration rag ToM pretends to be shocked that our economy exploits immigrants from poor countries. Perhaps they should tell the drivers that they should accept those ‘wages’ for diversity-sake.

Not to mention that we’ve seen a number of unfortunate road incidents including bolt drivers (although they aren’t the safest of drivers, but still) and recently I heard a Bolt delivery driver got punched in the face by a restaurant owner for complaining that the food was very late
Only solution is not stop issuing work visas to low skill workers, we have the entire EU to get low skill labor if a shortage
I think it’s acceptable that the recruiting company takes a cut from every trip. But if the driver takes 2.10€/trip and the agency 3.40€/trip I also think this should be the other way round…
I’m going to be biased here, but even though I agree they should be paid more, I don’t think the extra cost should fall on the customer… bolt is already paying €5.50 per ride. There’s plenty from it to grant drivers a fair share.
I’m fed up of companies raising prices “bEcAuSe oF thE wAr” meanwhile their profit margins remain the same, or increases.
Is there even a cap on the number of drivers that can be operational at any point?
We want our food cheap and we want it delivered fast. Somewhere along the line there’s a human cost to that.
Bolt and wolt take around 30% cut from the restaurant for each item sold. Do the restaurant business a favour… try to pick up your food. Wolt/bolt & the recruitment agencies are insanely predatory
It’s worth noting that the bolt app still does not have a tip courier feature. Could it be that drivers with Wolt don’t feel as cheated since it’s easier to tip the driver? I had switched to primarily using Wolt due to this, since it’s easier to just tip through the App.
If we had to break it down a driver would have to make about 13 trips a day including Sundays to hit the minimum wage.
Average trip length of say 30mis. So in 6-7hrs per day everyday.
So the driver is working a 50hr week for minimum wage. Conclusion.
Now this would be super during COVID when they where swimming in work but now mehhhh…. not so much and probably more workers. Just not enough work to go around.
According to the numbers that’s not slavery. It’s called minimum wage and it sucks.
It makes a different if the couriers own their own bike or use an agency / Bolt rented bike. But it’s true that they’re being paid close to nothing whilst the top people rake in all the profit.
What’s your point with this post? Just spewing your usual racist shit and disguising it as ‘discussion’?
Half the problem is the usual, mass overpopulation, bolt used to be worth it and pretty good for earning some money but now it’s flooded and you have to wait around for an hour to get an order and make a few euros if you are lucky. If they give the green light to every human on earth to come to Malta no problems, and thousands of these end up working with bolt who will not cap the amount of drivers, then it’s shit for the driver and not worth it
I honestly was shocked that in this day and age, they’re still getting such a low pay.
A minimum wage SHOULD be enforced, at least 5 euros per hour so they can have a sort of life not be loteral slaves. Plus, they’re risking their lives.
When I showed the article to my partner, he thought it was a joke as minimum wage in Ireland is like 10 euros..
