When your short, medium and long term goals are to extract as much wealth out the public sector into your pals bank accounts minor issues like funding research are just trashed, because they don’t see any profits there.
That simplistic? Yes.
We lost the Bio/Pharma/AI/Internet/Nano race two decades ago, no amount of funding will get us back into a player level position, the horse has truly bolted.
We all warned this would happen and all the usual gullible fools sat back and used these false-promises that the government would absolutely definitely 100% pinky swear replace all funding as absolutely trustworthy evidence that all our fears were for nothing.
