Who looks at the current situation and says, “you know what? We should have less energy security. We should put more of our eggs in the offshore wind basket rather than having greater diversity of different renewable energy sources.”
She (and Sunak) are right when they say that we should build a lot more offshore wind. But we should also build a lot more onshore wind and a hell of a lot more solar (as well as any other form of renewables including hydroelectric which could make our supply even more resilient). And we should be looking at a load of different solutions for energy storage.
Relying on fossil fuels gets us into the position where we have to choose between acquiescing to Putin’s demands or paying £300+ a month for our energy bills. Can someone let Truss and Sunak know that that’s a bad thing?

Put the solar panels interspersed over the crop. The evapotranspiration from the crops cools the solar panels, keeping them more efficient. The panels shade the crops, reducing heat stress and evaporative loss of water. The panels then also retain some of the heat at night, which also helps the crops below.

There is no spare ‘carbon budget’ for more fossil fuels.
