  1. To put things in perspective

The first person killed in the Troubles was a 67 year old man, Francis McClosky, beaten to death by the police (RUC)

The first child killed in the Troubles, Patrick Rooney, was machine gunned to death by the RUC

The first soldier killed in the Troubles, Hugh McCabe, was shot by the RUC

The first (adult) woman killed in the Troubles, Isabelle McKeauge, who died in a bomb attack by a loyalist group

The first police officer (RUC) killed in the Troubles, Victor Arbuckle, was shot by a loyalist

The army killed ~300 people during the Troubles.

~60 of those killed by the army were children

    E Thanks for the award

  2. Sinn Féin have to move on from the ping-pong game of Troubles narratives, it’s a beaten docket. There is an entire media industry dedicated to disseminating British/Unionist propaganda and disparaging anything Irish or Republican, today’s Belfast Telegraph front page being another prime example.

The SF strategy (Post-GFA) should have been to leave the conflict behind, and to snatch the Troubles away from self-obsessed Unionism. Unfortunately, Republicans are still too emotionally invested in the sacrifices and struggles of the past to make that leap.

  3. There was a clear alternative in the Peace People (to name only the most famous) but they were sabotaged by those that preceded violence.

I’d almost agree that a conflict was unavoidable. What was avoidable was things like the La Mar firebombing when the IRA chose to burn 12 people alive. Or when they forced people to suicide bomb or they’d torture their families to death. Or when the tortured a 15 year old mentally disabled child to death. Or countless other examples of absolute barbarity inflicted on their own people.

  4. Sinn Fein IRA

They achieved nothing that wouldn’t have been achieved through peaceful politics.

    Murdering savages.

  5. What a surprise, Sinn Feinn put themselves as terrorist sympathisers once again and this sub comes out in force to vigorously defend them.

  6. Wasn’t she recently marking the anniversary of the passing of thomas mcelwee – the dirtbag terrorist that put an incendiary device in a shoe shop and burned an innocent young woman to death in front of her son?
