Transport police chief suggests officers could have Oyster card data to track suspicious rail passengers

  1. But what do you count as ‘suspicious’? There are a growing number of train enthusiasts who share their journeys on social media with tips on travelling and wonderful footage/pictures.

There needs to be very clear guidance if this is done.

  2. Oh cool, we’ve entered the “if your data is slightly different from the norm you can expect a visit from the police” stage of the dystopia.

  3. If someone is suspicious and the police believe they have committed a crime, or are about to, they can’t get a warrant and check their Oyster history, like they can with mobile phones.

What they can’t do is a mass trawl of Oyster Card data and see what they catch
