People who vilify Britain will be treated as extremists and referred to the Government’s deradicalisation Prevent programme under plans by Rishi Sunak.

  1. Totally won’t be used to punish people e.g. educators teaching people the non Tory hard right version of history where Britain is a great country that never did anything wrong.

  2. Sunak is so cringe. He doesn’t even believe this shit himself. Just pandering to the worst authoritarian and racist instincts of who he imagines Tory members to be.

  3. >The former chancellor said he would extend the Government’s definition of ‘extremism’ to include those who attack British values and ‘our very existence’ if he becomes prime minister.

So pretty much the same thing lol

  4. So anyone speaking out against the tories and the values they are imposing on the country then. Not fascist at all.

Edit: At 1k upvotes I am becoming slightly concerned I may be the first target of this new policy.

  5. Luckily, Sunak’s chances of becoming prime minister are miniscule. He’s just saying the most right-wing stuff possible in hope of winning over Tory members.

  6. And there we go… The massive overreach we all knew was coming when this abusive, privacy-eroding “strategy” was introduced.

  7. Based on this premise, any unpopular or straight unfair policy action from his government will be flagged as part of Britain and entitled to send people to jail.

  8. He may as well Rename the “Governments De-Radicalisation Prevent Programme” to the Ministry of Love and the freshly reformed UK to Airstrip One.

  9. Ah it’s finally happening. This combined with them wanting to throw out human rights for terrorists means they can denounce anyone that opposes them as one and whip them away in a black van?

And I thought I was being too tinfoil hat for fearing this.

  10. People are furious about Corbyn being “soft on Russia”, but then we’ve got these clowns copying from Putins domestic policy book.

Crack down on protests, classify anyone who “talks down” the country as an extremist, and funnel as much money to your oligarch mates as possible.

Bet the next move will be sending any “undesirables” to a penal camp in Rwanda.

  11. Pretty sure this is how the Chinese government works. See you all in the re-education camps guys!

  12. What does that even mean? Criticism of the government? Criticism of historical figures?

If I suggest that Winston Churchill did great things for the UK and the world but on reflection, his policies in relation to Africa and India were suspect *by todays standards* will I get a knock on the door from the Police?

  13. Fun fact: back when the government was refusing to put a lockdown in place for the sake of their business interests at the start of the pandemic, more British civilians were dying every two days than have been killed by terrorists in recorded history.

  14. I am genuinely starting to worry, as insane as all this sounds as sound bytes this is one of two potential next prime ministers and the other one is equally as horrendous. Is this honestly the future of our Country? I don’t want anything to do with it.

  15. > Currently, extremism is defined as ‘vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs’.

So, for example, someone who stood by while a PM illegally prorogued Parliament, got fined for breaking the law, and vilified “woke” people, would be classed as an extremist? Bit of an own goal there Rish.

  16. Ladies and gentlemen I give you:-

Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Führer! [One People, One Realm, One Leader!]

A large chunk of the UK really needs to read a history book.

  17. This is dark. We aren’t creeping to fascism, we’re already there. I’m genuinely scared for my future. I hope this is just usual Daily Mail nonsense, for once I would welcome it to be untrue.

  18. >The British are among the worst idlers in the world. We work among the lowest hours, we retire early and our productivity is poor. Whereas Indian children aspire to be doctors or businessmen, the British are more interested in football and pop music.

    – Liz Truss, ‘Britannia Unchained’.

That sounds like vilifying Britain to me..

  19. This decent into fascism is getting quicker.
I love my country but I’m becoming more and more terrified of this right wing government.
I get the feeling this is the start of the velvet glove being removed to show the iron fist beneath.
We have already lost the right to peaceful protest, what next? The removal of the right to vote for an opposition party?

  20. **Saying** Britain is a shithole – bad.

**Ensuring** Britain is a shithole from a governmental position of power – fine!
