Literal ‘behind the scenes’ of today, while visiting grafeio tou politi :’)

  1. Once I visited a government office, which had several windows open and big queues to them. Suddenly one lady behind a window stood up and left without saying anything, “her” queue waited for a few minutes and one guy said “don’t worry, she just went to make a frappe”. Some people berated the guy and suggested that there could be another reason, etc. In a few more minutes the lady came back with a huge glass of frappe, and the whole room laughed.

  2. Is this surprising? Seen similar things in a dozen CY government offices. Including an office where 3 people were sleeping on chairs in a side room while there was a massive queue.

  3. To be fair I’ve seen similar things in private companies as well, but generally the ΚΕΠ in Limassol has been pretty efficient.

  4. Doubt there is a Cypriot woman wearing a Sari at the grafeio tou polity. Also the fact that that computer is actually working shows that this is a fake 😆

  5. There was an article a few years back about the mayor of Paphos who caught the employees gambling during business hours. There was a massive outrage, not at the people who were paid taxpayers money to gamble, but at the mayor – how dare he is to tell them what to do in their work hours. I believe there was even a small protest or something to that extent. Just tells you a lot about the work ethics.

The previous mayor has been in prison for fraud or some sort of financial crime, and was able to return to the office even though that’s where the crime was committed.
