Revealed: UK children being ensnared by ‘far-right ecosystem’ online

  1. I like it how the far right is made out to be a shady underground thing consigned to the darkest corners of the Internet.

The far right are unironically *in power* right now. Fucking Nick Griffin could be sat around that cabinet table and not be the most right wing person in that room.

  2. The far right aren’t lurking in the shadows. They’re out and proud in Westminster, on Fleet Street, and in TV studios.

  3. The algorithms basically push you down the rabbit hole. Click on one video and you will get recommended a dozen just like it. Then you get recommended videos based on what you like and what other people who share that interest like. Kids watch a lot of gaming videos and a fair few gamers are into alt-right stuff too, so now the kids are shown far right videos based on that. Finally, there is the simple fact that kids won’t know they are being radicalised and won’t be able to identify far right content when they see it. It is the content creator’s wet dream to indoctrinate kids before they know what has happened to them.

  4. Hahaha xD

Oh my god, I love the Guardian! It’s a real source of the best kind of unironic fearmongering left-wing paranoia that just tickles my ribs to no end! They’re literally not even trying to be subtle anymore in painting the Conservatives as some sort of sinister Child-Snatcher led brainwashing fascist cult that’s coming for the Lefties children! Hahaha xD

This shit is just too hilarious to me hahaha xD

  5. I mean, my coworker just posted a picture of a swastika in the colours of the pride flag on Facebook. So it’s a much bigger problem than just children

  6. It’s very very real

I fell down the rabbit hole when I was 13/14 and it’s hard to claw out of

UK schools don’t teach enough about social topics like race, sexuality, gender etc leading to children being drawn in by these online personalities with fancy graphics who sound like they know what they’re talking about, they don’t think to look for sources or think critically.

The best way to tackle ignorance and hate is always going to be education, which we need more of

  7. Obviously kids being radicalised to the far right is bad, but how do people feel about kids being radicalised to the far left? I always hear about the far right (what does that even mean)? But never ant complaints about the far left apart from randos online.

  8. I dont think anything like that’s happening. All that’s happening is theyre seeing the mistakes their parents made and in doing so they also happen to come up with answers which come from a right wing point of view. Which also works

  9. This is another bogey man. It’s written in such a vague way, there’s no indication of which ideas they’re calling “far right” and all they really did was catch an astonishingly small number of teenage edge-lords LARPing at Nazi…. Seriously, as a former member of the far right, this piddle is little more than justifying government surveillance and selling it as if it’s protecting kids and communities. They got a grand total of 70 referrals, and who knows on what basis those were made. Not only that, but the article criticises Prevent for focusing too much on “far right” extremism and not enough on Islamic extremism, and let’s face it: The police were afraid to tackle Muslim Pakistani grooming gangs, they harassed victims for daring to point out that there was significant religious involvement (part of Islamic extremist belief is that they can freely take women and girls as the spoils of war, and they believe themselves to be in a war). There’s a common theme here and nobody seems to notice because nobody is really paying attention and/or they’re too afraid to say it because some idiot will misunderstand what is being said.

  10. Tiktok id the absolute worst for this. The algorithm is so “good” it delivers everything to your taste, then just a little more and that kind of stuff can get gnarly quickly. Sometimes I go through the profiles of commenters and I’m shocked it’s boys as young as 12, 13 calling women whores and sluts. How do you get so nasty that young?

  11. I have to agree as someone who went down the far right rabbit hole on YouTube and is now thank god on the other side I really can’t state how easy it was for me to be indoctrinated. To the point of having what can only be described as almost Nazi esq views simply because the propaganda hit me at the right point at the right time.

  12. I know Prevent has been slated and from what I’ve heard that’s been deserved in cases. That said, I had to go to Prevent training twice in the last ten years as a teacher. Both times they were really clear that far right radicalisation was a much bigger issue in my area than Islamic or far left extremism.

  13. ITT A bunch of posers handwringing about the hyperfascist grunts of the UK from behind their twitchy curtains without a hint of self awareness.

Steer kids away from the racebaiting idpol bollocks that extremists of all stripes love, sure. No need to use this issue to nakedly soapbox about your lame predictions of an imminent BNP coup.
