Honestly what do you all think off the new Garda unifom?

  1. I don’t like it, it makes them look not as important as before. But I’m not the one who has to wear it, so maybe the Gards will like it more

  2. With some Garda wearing it for the first time today, it looks a bit ridiculous on some. While it is a step in the right direction and an upgrade, they could have don’t better.

  3. Gardai, I’ll tell ye what I tell me girlfriend:

    You look….. normal

“Normal? What does that mean, normal?”

    Eeeeh…. Yknow….ordinary like…. Normal

  4. The fellow on the right it looks more like an athletics outfit. I think they look kind of foolish and I expect them receive great mockery from local youths.

  5. The garda should wear a uniform made of wool gaberdine, and wear a ushanka. Polished brass buttons. Dark green button-up tunic. They should have shoulder boards and collar tabs. A podvorotnichok should be used and changed daily. Every garda should carry an AKM assault rifle.

I want to live in fear.

  6. I wasn’t a big fan of their old yellow heavy jacket that they had to wear all the time, but is this really better?

  7. >It cost €10 million to deliver and another €10 million over the five-year term of the contract.

    Call yourselves, you’ve been robbed.

  8. Is there a permanent badge on the uniform with their number displayed or are they still able to remove there numbers when they’re up to no good

  9. They really should have looked at other police forces like some in the US or UK for inspiration. Some police forces there have very practical and utilitarian uniforms for when on operational duties.

Things like polo shirts, cargo shorts, baseball caps are all acceptable as they help keep the officer comfortable while providing utility. Keep the stuffy formal wear either for the office or specifically for ceremonial/career related events.

I’ve always wondered how in Gods name a guard is expected to give chase to someone in those shoes, pants and shirt they wear, especially in weather like this. I’d probably give up after five steps too.

  10. Absolutely brutal. Looks like a GAA teams training gear.

I’m all for the causal aesthetic that’s moved into fashion, like co-ords and leggings but Jesus Christ the Gardai should not look like they’re coming from training down the local GAA club.

Also HOW much was the designer paid? I’m afraid to know…

  11. Looks a bit silly to be honest, they could have kitted them out something like the Australian Federal police and make them slightly more intimidating…

I mean if you took the hats off, they look like a bunch of lads and ladies out collecting rubbish on a beach ….

  12. This is one of those things where a board of talentless higher ups all had to have their say and all had to have their idea used. It absolutely screams design by committee. I wouldn’t be surprised if the designer, whoever they are, never intended for it to look this way.

  13. I honestly think it’s gonna hit morale. It looks pathetic. At least the old uniform had some dignity to it. The Brits do police active wear that looks pretty decent. This looks like it’s made from the cheapest shit plastic and elastic

  14. Met a few guards today.
Polo and combats are decent enough.
Much better than the shirt, tie and dress trousers shite from 1970.
They are decently embroidered and fit well on the non fatties.

Didn’t get to see the jackets as the weather was warm.
I was told they are bring made wear the stab vest UNDER the jacket which will make it look weird.

I thought a cap might be better than the hat but it’s not bad in real life.

  15. Looks awful hopefully it’s comfy or has some other redeeming quality.

I am glad we live in a country where the police don’t look like soldiers though I must say, hate to see it abroad.

  16. Saw one today in the shop. Don’t really have an opinion on how they look. I just think they’re probably way more comfortable to wear all day

  17. Saw a few guards today and the uniform does look better in the flesh.

It’s not great though. I think it looks quite cheap and I imagine it feels like a soccer jersey you’d buy from a stall in Marmaris.

It kinds has the look of a local police force in quite a nice area of Spain. The problem is, we’re all Policía Local, with no Policía Nacional to back them up.
